Orono, ME - The Hockey East Association announced on Wednesday afternoon that University of Maine forward, Luisa Welcke was named the Conferences Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month following her performance during the month of December.

Luisa Welcke, a first-year student from Hedleberg, Germany currently leads the Black Bears in points this season earning 14 points on five goals and nine assists. She is also currently second for freshmen in Hockey East in points this season.

Welcke had a strong showing in the month of December earning herself three points and helping Maine earn two victories over Boston University. In Maine's Dec. 2 3-0 victory over BU Welcke earned one assist on Maine's first goal. Welcke had her strongest showing of the month in Maine's Dec. 3 game against the Terriers. Welcke scored twice, giving Maine its second and third goals of the game to secure the 3-2 victory.

Welcke and the rest of the Black Bears will be on the road for a Hockey East series against Boston College on Thursday, Jan. 5, and Friday, Jan. 6.
