Orono, ME - In honor of 25 years of the program's history, UMaine Athletics is highlighting the ten top moments of Maine women's ice hockey over the past 25 years.
The University of Maine women's ice hockey team qualified for the Hockey East Playoff Tournament for the first time during the 2002-03 season.
The Hockey East Association established a women's ice hockey conference in 2002. Charter members were UConn, the University of Maine, the University of New Hampshire, Northeastern, Boston University and Providence College. Boston University and the University of Vermont did not become members until 2005.
The 2002-03 team finished with a record of 12-15-4 overall and 5-8-2 in Hockey East. Maine was ranked third and qualified for the Semifinals, for the first time in program history, where they faced the second seed, the University of New Hampshire. The Black Bears lost this game 2-0.
