Box Score ORONO, ME - The University of Maine field hockey team started off conference play in a big way as they scored five goals to defeated the Wildcats of New Hampshire, 5-1.
Maine got the scoring going as
Poppy Lambert netted the opening score of the contest on a penalty stroke attempt early in the opening quarter of the contest. The score was her fourth of the season.
The Black Bears would keep the offense going as
Sydney Meader deflected a shot from
Poppy Lambert (2) to net her fifth goal of the season on the penalty corner attempt.
Madisyn Hartley (4) picked up the secondary assist on the play.
Maine kept up the pressure as they netted their third goal of the contest late in the third period as
Julia Ross took it from the midfield area all the way to the net as she scored her second of the season.
The Wildcats would have an anwser in the third period as Tamera Cookman scored an un-assisted score from just inside the circle of the Black Bears.
Maine would hold onto the 3-1 lead until late into the fourth period until
Poppy Lambert scored her second of the contest, fifth on the season off of a penalty corner.
Madisyn Hartley (5) and
Tereza Holubcova (4) picked up the assists on the goal.
Maine would add one more score on with just over two minutes remaining in the contest as
Sydney Meader netted her second of the contest to finalize the Black Bear's five goal outing against the Wildcats of UNH. The score was Meader's sixth of the season.
Kate Richardson (1) picked up the assist, her first collegiate point.
Mia Borley was solid in net for the Black Bears, picking up five saves in the contest, allowing just the one score.
Maine (5-3, 1-0 AE) remains in Orono for a rematch of the 2021 America East Championship against the UAlbany Great Danes on Sunday, Sep. 25. That game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 P.M.
