Baseball Takes Home 13 Yearly Awards, Nick Derba Named Coach of the Year

Orono, Maine – The America East Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon that the University of Maine baseball team earned 13 yearly conference awards for performances during the 2022 season.
 
Maine, who led the conference with six all-conference team members and four all-academic members, finished with a 21-9 record in America East play, good for their most conference wins since 2013 and second-most all-time for the program (22 wins in 1993).

University of Maine Head Baseball Coach, Nick Derba, was named the conference's Coach of the Year after putting together the program's most conference wins since 2013. The Black Bears led the conference in batting average (.308), RBI's (219), doubles (66), slugging percentage (.510), on-base percentage (.415), and strikeouts thrown (268).
 
Named to the First Team All-Conference were:
 
Quinn McDaniel (Second Base), who slashed .353 (9th in AE)/.435/.655 (4th in AE) while playing in all 30 of Maine's conference games. He hit nine home runs (T-2nd in AE), drove in 34 runs (3rd in AE), and stole 15 bases (7th in AE). McDaniel led the America East Conference in runs scored (38).
 
Jordan Schulefand (Utility), who slashed .435 (2nd in AE)/.547 (1st in AE) /.685 (3rd in AE) while playing in all 30 of Maine's conference games. He hit five home runs, drove in 23 runs, and stole 21 bases (3rd in AE). Schulefand lead the America East in total hits (47). On the mound, Schulefand had a 4-1 record while recording 17 strikeouts.
 
Joe Bramanti (First Base), who slashed .291/.418/.650 (5th in AE) while playing in all 30 of Maine's conference games. He drove in a conference best 41 runs, while being tied for first in home runs (10). Bramanti also ranked third in doubles (12).
 
Trevor LaBonte (Pitcher), who finished with a 5-2 record over 10 starts. Over his 57.1 innings of work (4th most in AE), he had a 4.55 ERA (8th in AE), a 1.54 WHIP and 49 (7th in AE)-29 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
 
Named to the Second Team All-Conference were:

Jeremiah Jenkins (Designated Hitter), who slashed .288/.412/.512 while playing in all 30 of Maine's conference games. He hit 6 home runs, drove in 21 runs and hit two triples.
 
Matthew Pushard (Pitcher), who finished the season with a 2-0 record over his 13 appearances. Over his 23.1 innings of relief work, he turned in an ERA of 5.01, a 1.56 WHIP and a conference best 7 saves. He also collected 35 strikeouts (13.6 K/9) in the regular season.
 
 
Named to the All-Rookie Team were:

Caleb Leys (Pitcher), who finished the season with a 2-3 record over his nine starts in conference action. He had a 4.70 ERA, a 1.85 WHIP and 45 strikeouts during his 46 innings of work.
 
Jeremiah Jenkins (Designated Hitter), who slashed .288/.412/.512 while playing in all 30 of Maine's conference games. He hit six home runs, drove in 21 runs, and hit two triples.
 
Named to the All-Academic Team were:

Joe Bramanti, who has a 3.367 GPA and will be earning his Masters in Business Administration in May of 2022. He is a two-time Dean's List member, a four-time UMaine Scholar-Athlete (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum), a thre-time America East Academic Honor Roll recipient, and a one-time America East Commissioner's Honor Roll member.
 
Connor Goodman, who has a 3.898 GPA with a Major in Management and Leadership Minor. He is a Team Maine 2020 and 2021 recipient. He is a Beta Gamma Sigma Academic Honor Society member, a UMaine *Rising Star* Fall 2019, a two-time UMaine Scholar-Athlete (Bronze, Silver), a five-time Dean's List member, and a two-time America East Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll member.
 
During the regular season, Goodman slashed .358/.505/.493 while hitting one home run and driving in 17 runs. He also led the America East in with seven sacrifice bunts.
 
Matthew Pushard, who has a 4.00 GPA and will be earning his Master's Certificate in Business Administration in May of 2022. He is a UMaine *Rising Star* in Fall of 2016, a five-time UMaine Scholar-Athlete (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Titanium), a seven-time Dean's List member and a four-time America East Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll member.
 
Trevor LaBonte, who has a 3.810 GPA and will be earning his Masters Certificate in Business Administration in May of 2022. He is a UMaine *Rising Star* in Fall of 2021.
 
The Black Bears will be in action for the America East Playoffs on Thursday, May 26 at 11 A.M. as they face the lowest seeded winner from the first day of the America East Playoffs on Wednesday, May 25.
