ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine continues America East play this weekend when it hosts Binghamton for a three-game series. The two teams open play with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon before closing the series with a single game on Senior Day at 11 a.m.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine continues America East play with its final regular season home weekend of the year. The Black Bears will look to return to the win column in conference play after suffering a walk-off defeat at UMass Lowell on Tuesday. The Black Bears took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI from
Alyssa Derrick. However, the River Hawks rallied behind a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the contest, 5-4.
Maine puts its 5-1 home record on the line against Binghamton this weekend at Kessock Field.
Rachel Carlson continues to lead the way, ranking eighth in the league with a .344 mark at the plate. Carlson registers in the top five among league leaders in hits (43) and runs (21) while leading the conference in triples (4) and total at-bats (125). The senior center fielder is Maine's leader in multi-hit games (12), posting an impressive mark of seven, three-hit performances this season. Carlson also holds on to Maine's season-high streak of reaching base safely (10) and has knocked in multiple runs in four games.
Maddie Decker is hitting .333 in conference play and .288 overall. Decker leads the Black Bears with six multi-RBI performances and ranks second on the squad in hits (30), RBI (23) and home runs (4). Decker ranks third in the league in RBIs, eighth in home runs, fourth in walks (15) and ninth in hits.
Laurine German is posting a .278 mark and has matched Decker in hits with 30. German's five stolen bases are tied with Carlson for the team-lead. German ranks 10th in the league in total hits and ninth in walks (14).
Alyssa Derrick has provided a power threat for the Black Bears as she ranks fourth in the league in home runs (5) and second in RBI (26), driving in multiple runs in five games. Over her last five games, Derrick is hitting .412 with two home runs and five RBI with a .765 slugging percentage.
Annie Kennedy, the two-time and reigning America East Pitcher of the Week, is 9-4 on the season. Kennedy is sporting a league-low 1.35 ERA and ranks third in the league in strikeouts (77), including a league-best 26 strikeouts looking. Kennedy's control has been impressive as she has allowed just 13 walks in 103.2 innings. Her 0.88 walks allowed per seven innings ranks ninth in the nation. In conference play, Kennedy is 4-1 with a 1.42 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 39.1 innings. Freshman
Kyleigh O'Donnell, the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, is 5-7 overall with a 3.50 ERA. O'Donnell has fanned 62 opposing batters over 70.0 innings. Against league foes, O'Donnell is 2-2 with a 1.88 ERA and 29 strikeouts over 26.0 innings.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
The Bearcats enter play with a 4-7 mark in conference play and are currently riding a five-game losing streak thanks in part to getting swept in a three-game set against UMass Lowell last weekend. Binghamton's Jessica Rutherford currently ranks second in the league with a .396 average, is fifth in runs scored (20) and fourth in total hits (42). Senior Kate Richard checks in third among league leaders in home runs (6) and fourth in RBI (23).
Rayn Gibson is 5-10 on the season in the circle with a team-high 20 appearances, including 15 starts. Gibson has a 4.51 ERA with a team-high 69 strikeouts over 76.0 innings. Makenzie Goluba's 3.23 ERA is a team-low while Chelsea Howard and Rozlyn Price each check in with three wins apiece.
SERIES OVERVIEW:
The Black Bears are 31-18 all-time against Binghamton. Last season, Maine was swept at Binghamton before knocking off the No. 1 seeded Bearcats, 2-1, in the America East tournament. It marked the second-straight season in which Maine defeated Binghamton in postseason play. The Bearcats last visited Orono in 2016 where the Black Bears took two games out of the three-game weekend set. Maine is 4-6 over its last 10 games against Binghamton.
