ORONO, Maine - The Black Bears take a break from their May homestand to travel down to Chestnut Hill to face the Boston College Eagles Tuesday afternoon at 4pm. This comes after a weekend conference sweep of the UML River Hawks, putting Maine at 20-24 overall and 7-10 in conference with one weekend remaining. The Eagles come in on a two-game win streak, taking two from Quinnipiac in non-conference action.
Last Time Out
After taking the double header on Friday with two come-from-behind victories, the Black Bears completed the sweep of the River Hawks on Saturday with an 8-4 victory. The Black Bears exploded with a five-run second inning to lead 6-0 after two full innings and never looked back. Jonah Normandeau got the start for Maine and went 6.0 innings, allowing six hits, two runs, two walks, and striking out one in his second win of the season. He threw 58 strikes on 96 pitches.
A Look at Maine
The Black Bears are led by Junior Catcher Chris Bec, who has a team-high .352 batting average and 53 hits. His batting average is second-best in the America East conference. Sophomore shortstop Jeremy Pena has been swinging the bat well as of late, he's second on the team in RBIs with 27, and batting average with .296. Senior right-fielder Tyler Schwanz has hit a team-high six home runs this season, he is batting .268 on the season. He now holds the team-high for RBI's with 32. Pena and Scwhanz rank third and fourth in the conference in triples hit this season, Pena has four triples, Schwanz has three. Freshman first-baseman Hernen Saridinas has made his presence known in his first year in the America East, as he leads the team in conference batting average at .357 with eight doubles, two home runs and six RBIs.
Scouting the Eagles
Boston College comes into the contest in the midst of a three-game conference break, taking two from the Quinnipiac Bobcats this past weekend, and resume ACC play against Notre Dame this weekend. They are 8-19 in ACC play so far this season. They are led by Gian Martellini who holds the team-high in hits with 53, home runs with five, and the second-highest batting average with .314 and second highest amount of RBIs with 33. Michael Strem leads the team with 34 RBIs and a .247 batting average. Jake Alu holds the highest average on the team, .320 on the season.Â
