Box Score ORONO, Maine -- The Maine Black Bears welcomed the No. 3/4 Boston University Terriers to Alfond for a Saturday night Hockey East Matchup in front of a sold out crowd. The Black Bears dropped the contest, 3-1.
The first period was a tight checking affair that saw both teams get two chances on the powerplay. Boston University, however, would make the most out of the Black Bear powerplay as Clayton Keller was able to intercept a
Rob Michel outlet pass, and go in all alone, scoring on Maine goaltender
Rob McGovern, giving the Terriers a 1-0 leading heading into the first intermission.
The second period saw the Black Bears run into penalty trouble that would eventually prove costly. Jordan Greenway was able to find fellow Terrier Forsbacka Karlsson on the left faceoff dot, who then wired a puck through the seam, finding Patrick Harper who buried the chance passed a sprawling McGovern. The Black Bears found themselves staring down a two-goal deficit as they headed into the third frame.
Blaine Byron was able to breakthrough on the powerplay for Maine 6:18 into the 3rd as a seeing eye shot arched over BU goaltender Jake Oettinger.
Mitchell Fossier and
Rob Michel were credited with the assists. Three minutes later the Terriers would extend their lead back to two sa Brandon Hickey would be the beneficiary of a deflected puck and an open net opportunity. Clayton Keller and Nick Roberto were credited with the assists. The game would end with a 3-1 final, with Jake Oettinger picking up the win and 26 saves, while goaltender
Rob McGovern would make 34 saves in the loss.
