Field Hockey drops season opener to No. 8 Liberty

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine field hockey team dropped its season opener by a final of 5-0 to No. 8 Liberty on Friday afternoon at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex.
Saylor Kuefler and Luisa Muller tallied Maine's two shots on goal. Annabel Halkes made her first career start in the cage for Maine and turned away eight shots while fellow freshman Fiona Guensch made 10 stops in her 30 minutes of action.
Maine registered one penalty corner try in the game while Liberty finished with five tries.
Liberty opened the scoring with an unassisted goal from Avery Pollock at 6:44 and extended the lead on a penalty corner goal tally from Dara Semmartin at 22:46.
The Flames took a 3-0 edge Julieta Tornati's penalty stroke goal at 37:01.
Semmartin's second of the game, off another penalty stroke, came at 42:45.
Lunda Prieri wrapped up the scoring with her goal at 48:44.
Maine returns to action when it hosts No. 15 UMass on Sunday at noon.
