Maine set to host Liberty Friday, UMass on Saturday
ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine field hockey team will open the 2026 season on Friday, Aug. 28 when it plays host to #8 Liberty at 12 p.m before hosting #15 UMass on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 12 p.m. at the Maine Field Hockey Complex.

ABOUT MAINE:
- Maine is coming off a 7-12 campaign with a 1-4 mark in America East play in 2025. The Black Bears made it to the America East Semifinals after defeating #4 UMass Lowell 4-3 before falling to #1 Vermont 1-0 (SO 3-1).
- Maine returns four of its top five scorers from a year ago, which includes Eloise Penty who led the team with eight goals while going 6-7 on penalty strokes and Saylor Kuefler who led the team with 10 assists.
- In the cage Jayde Temby returns to the Black Bears as the lone returning goalkeeper (2-1, 1.58 GAA, .700 save percentage).
- The Black Bears added four first years to the program along with adding one graduate transfer.
- In 2025, the Black Bears ranked fourth in America East goals per game (2.41) and third in goals against (1.84) while finishing second in penalty corners (7.11).
- Liberty come into the season as the defending Big East champions after a 17-3 campaign and went undefeated (7-0) in Big East play.
- Liberty was ranked eighth in the NFHCA Preseason Top 25.
- On a team that returns 15 members of their roster from 2025, and added 10 newcomers to their squad, Junior defender Dara Semmartin and reigning Big East Goalkeeper of the Year sophomore Diane Saint Martin, lead the charge for the Lady Flames by both being named to the All-Big East preseason first team.
- Semmartin led the Big East last year in assists per game (0.80), ranking ninth nationally in the category. She totaled 16 assists, establishing a new single-season program record in the process. Saint Martin ranked fourth in the country in goalie win-loss percentage (.850), fifth in goals-against average (0.88) and eighth in save percentage (.775).
- UMass opens the season at #15 in the NFHCA Preseason poll after finishing 16-4 overall record and 8-1 MAC play in 2025.
- UMass returns its top two point-getters from last season and nine of its top 12, including Emily Barrett who tallied 18 points (eight goals, two assists) last season and Fiene Jenniskens who recorded 17 points (one goal, 15 assists).
- In the cage, UMass returns sophomore Colleen Conlan (did not see game action in 2025) and brought in graduate transfer Rozárie Mrázová who at Maine in 2025 posted a 1.94 goals against average and.759 save percentage over 18 games.
