Preview: Black Bears set to host #11 Huskies in Hockey East action

Maine will host UConn on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine men's ice hockey team will host the #11 University of Connecticut on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14 at Alfond Arena.
 
Puck drop on Friday is set for 7 p.m. on both nights. The conference contests will stream on ESPN+, with an international stream available via Hockey East/Stretch Internet. The games can also be listened to via 95.7 FM or online at GoBlackBears.com/MIHRadio.

Friday night's game will be the annual 'White Out Game' with free t-shirts for all fans courtesy of W.S. Emerson and Hammond Lumber.

WHAT'S ON TAP
• The University of Maine men's ice hockey team will host UConn for two games this weekend at Alfond Arena ... this marks the only two regular season meetings between the Black Bears and Huskies.
• Maine sits at 14-11-2 overall and 8-9-0 in Hockey East play after falling in overtime at Boston University on Friday night.
• UConn is 16-7-3 overall and 10-5-1 in Hockey East contests after picking up a 2-0 win over Northeastern on Friday.
 
A WIN ON FRIDAY WOULD. . .
• Move the Black Bears to 15-11-2 overall on the year and 9-9-0 in Hockey East games.
• Bump Maine to an overall record of 10-15-5 in the all-time series with UConn.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs UCONN
• Maine holds an all-time record of 9-15-5 in the series with UConn after going 0-2-1 during the 2024-25 regular season before topping the Huskies, 5-2, in the Hockey East Tournament title game.
• During the regular season, the Black Bears lost 4-2 and tied 2-2 with a shootout win at Alfond Arena in January ... the Huskies then earned a 3-2 overtime win in Storrs on Feb. 21.
• Ten current Black Bears have at least one point against UConn ... Josh Nadeau (2-6-8) leads the way with eight points while Brandon Chabrier (1-6-7) has seven points.
• The first-ever meeting in the series came on Dec. 9, 1977 – a 10-2 UMaine victory.
 
IT'S WORTH NOTING
• Maine is averaging 3.4 goals per game, good for a tie for 13th in the country ... the last time Maine averaged 3.4 or more goals per game in a season was 2010-11 (3.4).
• Justin Poirier is tied seventh in the country and is second among all rookies with 18 goals.
• Brandon Holt is third in active career scoring by a Hockey East defender, totaling 68 points on 17 goals and 51 assists.
• Maine leads Hockey East with an average of 67.22 shot attempts per game.
• Frank Djurasevic is 26th in the country and fourth in Hockey East with a career-high 50 blocks.
• Fromer Black Bears Eduards Tralmaks (Latvia) and Jeremy Swayman (United States) have been named to their respective country's national teams for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games ... Tralmaks and Swayman - who will meet in the first game of the men's hockey tournament on Feb. 12 - spent three seasons together at Maine.
