Preview: Black Bears wrap up regular season with single game at Merrimack, Feb 19

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team (11-18-4, 7-12-4 HE) will play their final game of the regular season on Feb 19 against Merrimack College. Puck drop is set for 3:30 PM at Lawler Arena in North Andover, MA.

MORE ON MAINE:

  • Rookie Isabelle Michaud leads the team with 16 points (9-7-16).
  • Maine is currently tied in 7th place in the Hockey East standings. Maine has potential to end as high as 6th place to avoid opening round of playoffs. Providence and Boston U are close, just two points behind Maine.
  • Kiia Lahtinen has broken into the Top-10 most saves list for Maine's program, currently sitting in 8th place with 1455 saves. Also, Lahtinen is in the Top-5 for Games Won in a Single Season at UMaine. She is tied for 5th place overall with 10 wins this season after her shutout last weekend. 
  • Lahtinen has played in 30 games this year, holding a .921 save percentage.
  • Maine's penalty kill (80.9%) is the eighth best in Hockey East while the powerplay (12.8%) is ninth.

PREVIOUS GAMES WITH MERRIMACK:    

  • Back in January, Maine split with the Warriors after a 2-0 loss and a 4-2 win. Maine came back with four goals in the third period to win on Jan 24 at Alfond Arena.
  • Kiia Lahtinen played in both games against Merrimack making a total of 37 saves.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS (7-21-4, 4-16-2 HE):

  • Despite Merrimack already having locked in the last place seed in Hockey East, the team is on a three game unbeaten streak after downing Providence 3-2, tying and earning the shootout win over #14 Holy Cross and beating Vermont 3-2 this past Sunday.
  • Junior forward Emma Pfeffer leads the team in goals (10), assists (10) and points (20). She also leads with 7 of the team's 15 powerplay goals. 
  • Hailey Eikos (2-10-12) and Avery Anderson(6-10-16) also have 10 assists this season. 
  • Adrenna Doucette leads the team with 21 games played in goal and a 2.51 GAA and .927 save percentage.
  • The team is 16.9% on the powerplay (8th in HE) and 81.9% on the PK (6th in HE).

UP NEXT:

  • Opening round of the Hockey East Playoffs begins Wed, Feb 25.
  • #7 seeds hosts #10 Merrimack, and #8 seeds hosts #9 seed. 
  • Maine is currently 7th in the standings. Maine has the ability to end anywhere from 6th to 9th place. If Maine ends in 6th, they will receive a BYE into the Quarterfinals, which will take place Feb 27 or 28.
