Maine Athletics announces departure of Molly Engstrom

ORONO, Maine – Maine Athletics announced today that women's ice hockey head coach Molly Engstrom has stepped down to accept an assistant coaching role with PWHL Detroit.
"I am so grateful for my time spent in Maine, it was truly a dream," said Engstrom. "The University of Maine afforded me the first opportunity to be a head coach and live in a place that I absolutely adored. I will forever be grateful for that. The relationships that Kenna and I built over the course of the four seasons will last a lifetime, I am sure of it. This was a decision that tore at my heart strings but I know the team is ready to take on the next challenge. Thank you to all of the fans, friends, families, colleagues who supported us along the way and leaned in. Maine Women's Hockey has a bright future and I am so grateful to have had a small piece in it."
The University of Maine will begin a national search for its next head women's ice hockey coach effective immediately.

"I would like to thank Molly for her leadership and contributions to the women's ice hockey program over the past four seasons," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Jude Killy. "She has helped grow our program and women's ice hockey here in meaningful ways and we wish her well as she begins her new role with PWHL Detroit."
