ALBANY, N.Y. -- In a game which featured 11 lead changes and six ties, the Black Bears outscored UAlbany 17-12 in the final quarter to close out a 65-60 road victory against the Great Danes on Thursday evening.
Adrianna Smith posted 25 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists to lead the Black Bears while
Asta Blauenfeldt added 12 points and three steals.
Sarah Talon rounded out Maine's double-figure scoring efforts with 11 points.
For Smith, the point total extended her double-figure scoring streak to 15 as she posted her eight performance of the year of scoring 25 or more points.
Maine shot 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from three point range and 25-of-55 (47.3) overall from the floor. The Black Bears forced 16 turnovers while posting 13 steals. Maine held a 19-3 advantage in points off turnovers.
A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears are averaging 68.7 points per game in league play and have won the turnover battle in six of the first seven conference games, with single digit turnover totals in two of the first seven and a turnover margin of +6.00. Maine is averaging a league-best 10.0 steals and league-high 15.7 assists per game in conference play.
Adrianna Smith continues her impressive and consistent offensive output as she leads the America East in scoring (21.2), rebounding (9.5), and assists (4.8). Smith, who has tallied three performances of 30-plus points this year with two of those performances coming over her last four outings, enters play on a 15-game double-figure scoring streak. Smith has registered 20 or more points 11 times this year. She is averaging 26.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in league action.
Sarah Talon, who has recorded double-digit scoring in five of the first seven conference games, is averaging 11.9 points and 5.0 rebounds against league competition.
Asta Blauenfeldt, who recently had her seven-game double-digit scoring streak snapped, ranks second on the team in scoring (11.6) and leads the America East in conference-only steals at 2.6 takeaways per game.
A LOOK AT BINGHAMTON:
The Bearcats, 8-1 at home this season, have won five of their last six including a 50-42 victory on Thursday against New Hampshire. Binghamton's lone conference loss came at UMBC, 64-58. Binghamton has won six-straight on its home court. Bella Pucci leads the Bearcats, ranking eighth in the conference at 14.2 points per game with a team-high 32 triples on the year. Kendall Bennett is adding 13.8 points and ranks second in the America East with 9.2 rebounds per game. Binghamton boasts the league's second-ranked offense (68.4) and check in second among league leaders with 19.2 turnovers forced per game with 9.8 steals per outing. Binghamton leads the league and ranks 24th in the country with a 77.4 percent clip from the free throw line.
SERIES WITH BINGHAMTON:
Maine and Binghamton will meet for the 53rd time with the Black Bears holding a 36-16 advantage. Maine, which has won 25 of the last 29 meetings, had its 11-game win streak against Binghamton snapped with a 69-59 loss in their last trip to Binghamton. The Black Bears bounced back to earn a 54-53 victory in the latest meeting in Orono. Maine and Binghamton first met in 2001, a 63-62 overtime victory by the Black Bears. Maine is 18-8 on the road in the head-to-head series and have won in six of their last seven trips to Binghamton.
