Box Score Williamsburg, VA – The University of Maine football dropped a one-point contest at William & Mary in their 2025 CAA opener, 28-27.
Maine got the ball for the first time on the evening as
Jamaree Gibson tackled the William & Mary kick holder on a fourth down field goal try that was botched.
Sincere Baines got the scoring going in the first quarter as he received a 1-yard pass from
Carter Peevy on fourth down to make it 7-0 Black Bears.
Maine added on in the second quarter as Peevy broke free on fourth-and-one for a 45-yard touchdown run to double the Black Bears score at 14-0. The rush was his first rushing touchdown of the season and second touchdown of the game.
William & Mary got on the board with 7:02 remaining in the second quarter on a 23-yard receiving touchdown.
Samuel Tremblay knocked through a 27-yard field goal with 1:46 remaining in the first half.
Maine carried their 17-7 lead into halftime as Peevy had 42 passing yards, 75 rushing yards, a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown.
Christian Thomas led the Black Bears with 8 tackles and 1.5 tackles-for-loss.
Vincent Nwachi had three tackles and a pass breakup.
William & Mary scored the first touchdown of the second half on a 6-yard reception at 11:44 in the third quarter.
The Tribe scored again 3:40 later a on a 2-yard run to take their first lead of the game at 8:04 remaining in the third.
Scott Woods put the Black Bears back in front with 1:18 remaining in the third quarter as he reeled in his first touchdown catch as a Black Bear, a 2-yard reception from Peevy on third-and-goal.
Tremblay connected on his second kick of the game, a 22-yard attempt, with 7:09 remaining in the fourth quarter to increase the Maine advantage to 27-21.
The Tribe retook the lead with 3:11 remaining in the contest on a 1-yard rushing touchdown.
William & Mary forced an interception with 2:28 remaining in the contest.
Notes:
- Tremblay's 27-yard field goal in the first half was his first field goal attempt of the season.
- Elias Sherman registered the first sack of the season for the Black Bears in the fourth quarter, forcing a William & Mary punt.
- Maine out rushed William & Mary 226-124.
