Maine Athletics mourns the pass of Dick Todd ('72)

Orono, Maine – The University of Maine athletics department was saddened to learn of the passing of offensive lineman/defensive tackle, Dick Todd ('72).

"We are saddened to learn of the passing of Dick Todd," says head football coach Jordan Stevens. "Dick was a champion on the field and in life. We will honor Dick's legacy of commitment to excellence on and off the field."

Todd was a four-year letterwinner for the Black Bears from 1968-1971 before graduating in the spring of 1972. He joined the Maine football program as a walk-on, but immediately made his mark on the offensive line, being a key player on the front before transitioning to defensive tackle for his senior season.

In 1969, Todd was a part of an offensive line that helped put together the second-best passing season by the Black Bears to that point in the history of the program, racking up 1,347 yards and 12 touchdowns. That same group also rushed for 1,379 yards, the most during his time at UMaine.

Dick and his wife, Maureen, have been large contributors to the Alfond Fund and the University of Maine Foundation since their graduations from the University of Maine.
