Preview: Women's Ice Hockey set to open the 2025-26 season against #10 Quinnipiac

Maine starts the season with a non-conference series against the nationally ranked Bobcats.

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine's women's ice hockey team is set to begin their 2025-26 season with a pair of non-conference games against the #10 ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats on Friday, Sept. 26 at 6:00 P.M. and Saturday, Sept. 27 at 3:00 P.M. at M&T Bank Arena in Hamden, Connecticut.

Notes on the Black Bears:

  • Maine returns 17 players from last season, including scoring leaders Lily Fetch (8-7-15) and  Mikayla Boarder (8-6-14). Both of whom are entering their junior seasons. 
  • Maine's top scorer on the defensive end, Kendall Sundby enters her sophomore season after 4 goals, 6 assists for 10 points last season. Three of her goals came on the powerplay.
  • Kiia Lahtinen ended her freshman campaign as National Rookie of the Month, after earning two shutouts in February.  

Scouting the #10 Bobcats:

  • The Bobcats are ranked #10 in the national poll.
  • Last weekend, QU beat #12 UConn 3-0 in an exhibition matchup.
  • Lamarche, Frenette and Uens were the Bobcat goal scorers while Frank and Hogarth split time in goal. 
  • QU returns 55% of its scoring from a season ago, with their rising sophomore class accounting for over a third of that production. 
  • ECAC All-Rookie Team selection Makayla Watson will be back after notching 16 points a season ago. 
  • Last season's leading scorer, Kahlen Lamarche, returns for her junior year in Hamden after two-straight 30+ point seasons. 
  • The team brought in 11 newcomers.

Previous Matchup Facts: 

  • The overall series record between Maine and Quinnipiac is 22-14-2 in favor of the Bobcats. The series record dates back to 2001.
  • Last season, Maine lost to the Bobcats 7-0 and 4-0. Julia Bachetti played in net for both games making a weekend total of 60 saves.
