BOSTON – A trio of Maine women's soccer players have earned America East weekly awards, as announced Monday by the conference.
Elena Barenberg was named America East Rookie of the Week,
Rebecca Grisdale earned America East Defensive Player of the Week and
Julie Lossius was tabbed the America East Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
Â
Barenberg earned her first career win and shutout as Maine topped UAlbany, 1-0, on the road to open up America East play. The Cologne, Germany native made two saves to post the first shutout by a true freshman in America East play since the 2021 season.
Â
Grisdale anchored a backline that gave up just five shot attempts in the contest. The captain and Calgary, Alberta native played the full 90 minutes in helping Maine push its unbeaten streak against conference opponents to 16 games.
Â
Lossius, a captain, scored the game-winning goal in the seventh minute when she got on the end of a
Jordane Pinette service into the box. The Kristiansand, Norway native also had an America East-leading four shots on goal in the contest.
Â
This marks the first career weekly awards for Grisdale, Lossius and Barenberg. This also marks the first time a school has earned the Rookie, Offensive and Defensive awards in the same week since September 2019.
