Black Bears shutout UAlbany on the road to open up conference play

Julie Lossius scored while Elena Barenberg earned her first career shutout.

ALBANY, N.Y. – Behind Elena Barenberg's first career shutout and a goal from Julie Lossius, the University of Maine women's soccer team defeated UAlbany, 1-0, in the America East opener on Sunday afternoon at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

Less than seven minutes into the game, Lossius got on the end of a cross from Jordane Pinette to stake the Black Bears to the early lead. A few minutes later, Barenberg kept it a 1-0 scoreline with a diving stop to her left as a Great Dane broke into the box.

Barenberg had another big save late in the second half, again ranging to her right to punch away a dangerous shot to help Maine preserve the shutout.
