Preview: Women's soccer travels to UAlbany to begin America East play

The Black Bears will travel to New York on Sunday to open up America East play against UAlbany.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will travel to New York on Sunday to open up America East play against UAlbany.
 
The Black Bears and Great Danes are set to kickoff at 3 p.m. at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. The game will stream live on ESPN+ with an international stream available via America East TV.

ABOUT MAINE
• Maine enters conference play at 1-4-1 on the season … the Black Bears fell to BIG EAST foe UConn, 3-1, on Sunday to close out non-conference play.
• Abbey Thornton scored Maine's lone goal at UConn and is tied for the team lead with two … Emma Nicholson leads Maine in points with five from two goals and one assist … Victoria Dungey has a team-leading two assists.
• Nicholson ranks third among America East players with her 17 shots and is tied sixth with nine shots on goal.
• In road games this season, Maine is 1-1-1… in addition to facing the Huskies, the Black Bears earned a 3-2 win at Merrimack before battling to a 2-2 tie at Army.
• The Black Bears are out-shooting opponents 77-67 on the year and have a 40-35 margin in shots on goal.

• UAlbany enters America East play at 1-5-2 overall after falling at Rider, 2-0, this past Sunday.
• Five different student-athletes have scored for the Great Danes this season with Madison Hnis leading the way with two goals … Hnis also had a team-high eight shots on goal and 13 shots.
• Claudia Volino has played all 720 minutes in goal, making 42 saves with a .677 save percentage … Volino has three shutouts on the year,.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs UALBANY
• Maine sits at 13-10-2 in the all-time series with UAlbany.
• Last season, Maine earned a 1-0 win at home over the Great Danes … Abby Kraemer scored in the 56th minute with Rebecca Grisdale and Luise Reinwald earning assists on the bang-bang service into the box.
• Reinwald leads all active Black Bears in scoring against UAlbany with one goal and one assist.
• The teams first met in 2001, with the Black bears earning a 3-0 win … Maine won the first nine meetings in the series while UAlbany held an eight-game winning streak from 2014-2021.
