Preview: Soccer hosts Rhode Island on Sunday to kick off 2025 season

The Maine women’s soccer team will kick off the 2025 season on Sunday, Aug. 17 when it hosts Rhode Island at 12 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will kick off the 2025 season on Sunday, Aug. 17 when it hosts Rhode Island at 12 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond.
 
Maine's season-opener against the Rams will stream live on America East TV.

ABOUT MAINE
• Maine went 13-2-3 overall in 2024 en route to the program's second consecutive America East tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth … the Black Bears also went 7-0-1 in league play to earn the program's first-ever America East regular season title.
• Maine lost four of the top five scorers from the 2024 squad but returns Jordane Pinette, who had 15 points on six goals and three assists in earning America East All-Conference Second Team honors … the forward's six game-winning goals tied for seventh overall in the nation.
• Pinette, goalkeeper Grace Wilson and defender Rebecca Grisdale were all named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team … the Black Bears led the conference with four first place votes and were picked to finish third … additionally, Maine's three selections to the preseason all-conference squad tied for the league lead.
 
ABOUT RHODE ISLAND
• Rhode Island, who hosts Le Moyne on Thursday night, went 7-8-3 overall in 2024 and put up a 4-5-1 in Atlantic 10 play.
• The Rams return their leading scorer from a season ago with Lauren MacDonald … as a sophomore in 2024, she recorded 17 points on seven goals and three assists.
• The Rams were tabbed sixth in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs RHODE ISLAND
• Maine sits at 9-10-3 in the all-time series with URI, including a mark of 3-2-0 in the last five games.
• The teams met last season in Kingston, with Jordane Pinette scoring the game's lone goal in the 16th minute … Maine also picked up a 1-0 win in Orono in 2023.
