Preview: Black Bears set to host #13 Northeastern for single conference game Friday

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team (8-20-1, 7-14-1 HE) will host the #13 Northeastern Huskies (18-10-1,13-8-1 HE) for a single game on Feb. 7 at Alfond Arena. Game time is set for 6:00 pm EST. The Black Bears will wear their alternate baby blue, Maine-themed jerseys. Tickets are available for purchase online (GoBlackBears.com/Tickets, via phone (207-581-BEAR) or in person at the Alfond Arena.

BLACK BEARS' LAST TIME OUT:

  • Maine was defeated in overtime twice last weekend - first to Providence on Friday 3-2, and then to Holy Cross on Saturday 1-0. Picking up two conference points keeps Maine above UNH, in sixth place of the Hockey East standings.
  • In Friday's game, Sam Morrison and Haley Ryan were the goal scorers for Maine, with Adriana van de Leest, Kendall Sundby and Danielle Brunette picking up one assist each. 
  • Julia Bachetti played in goal Friday, making 20 saves for Maine on 23 shots faced.
  • On Saturday, Maine and Holy Cross skated for a scoreless 60 minutes to push the game into overtime. After a penalty taken my Maine, Holy Cross was able to capitalize in overtime to win 1-0. 
  • Kiia Lahtinen made 23 saves on 24 shots faced. 

PREVIOUS MATCHUPS WITH #13 NORTHEASTERN:

  • Maine skated in two tight games with Northeastern back in November this season, falling 2-1 and 2-0. 
  • Kiia Lahtinen saw both games between the pipes, making a weekend total of 60 saves on 64 shots faced.
  • Lily Fetch was Maine's lone goal scorer in the weekend series in November.
  • The overall record between the two teams is 9-26-3, in favor of Northeastern.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES (18-10-1,13-8-1 HE)

  • Since the start of the new year, the Huskies have won eight of their last 12 games. 
  • This past weekend, Northeastern was upset by Vermont 1-0 on Friday, before downing #15 UConn in overtime on Saturday, 4-3. 
  • Most recently, Northeastern fell to #14 Boston University of Tuesday night in overtime, by a score of 3-2.
  • Northeastern currently sits in third place in the Hockey East standings.
  • Skylar Irving and Jaden Bogden lead the Huskies with 11 goals each. Skylar Irving also leads in assists with 14, for a total of 25 points. Freshman Eloise Caron is second in points with 20 so far. 
  • Goaltender Lisa Johnson has started in 19 games, holding a .950 save percentage and 1.26 goals-against average, which is hte best in the entire conference. 

LOOKING AHEAD:

  • Maine will hit the road next weekend to face Merrimack College on Feb. 14 and 15 in North Andover, MA at Lawler Arena. Game times are set for 2:00 pm on both Friday and Saturday.
