Preview: Women's Basketball concludes regular season Saturday at Bryant

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team concludes the 2024-25 regular season when it travels to take on Bryant on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. A win for the Black Bears locks up the No. 3 seed in the upcoming America East Tournament.

LAST TIME OUT:
ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine head coach Amy Vachon surpassed former Black Bears head coach Joanne Palombo-McCallie to become the all-time winningest head coach in UMaine women's basketball history with her 168th victory as the Black Bears defeated New Hampshire by a final of 62-48.

Asta Blauenfeldt guided Maine to victory with 18 points, seven of which coming in the fourth quarter, with four triples. Caroline Bornemann posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six assists and four steals while Paula Gallego turned in 13 points.

Maine, which shot 23-of-45 from the floor including 10-of-20 from three-point range, outscored New Hampshire 21-12 in the fourth quarter while shooting 6-of-10 with four triples in the final frame.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine, which wrapped up conference play 7-1 at home, hits the road looking to snap its current three-game conference road losing skid. Caroline Bornemann, who has tallied double-digits in nine conference games this season and is coming off her seventh double-double of the season, , is averaging 13.4 points per game and a league-high 8.6 rebounds in America East play. Overall, Bornemann ranks fifth in the league in scoring (12.3) and second in rebounding (8.0). Caroline Dotsey has produced seven games of double-digits in league play and ranks second on the team in scoring at 10.1 points per game, good for 11th best in the league. Asta Blauenfeldt, coming off a team-high 18 points performance in the win over UNH, ranks in the top-25 among league leaders in four categories including scoring (23rd-8.9); 3-pointers made per game (12th-1.3); assists (9th-2.5); and steals (6th-1.6). Paula Gallego ranks second in the league in both assists per game (3.7) and assist to turnover ratio (1.7). Gallego has six or more assists in six games this season. Maine continues to set the pace from downtown where it is averaging a league-high 8.1 triples per game on a league-best 24.7 attempts. The Black Bears, who have recorded double-digit triples in back to back games, have now hit double-digit triples in six games this season.

A LOOK AT BRYANT:
The Bulldogs, 9-3 at home this season, are on a two-game win streak with recent victories over UMass Lowell and Vermont. Mia Mancini leads the way for Bryant, averaging 11.3 points with 44 triples to go along with a team-high 3.3 assists. Breezie Williams is adding 9.8 points while Ali Brigham is chipping in 9.9. Nia Scott leads the Bulldogs, and the league, at 8.6 rebounds. Bryant ranks seventh in the league in both offense (57.8 ppg) and defense (59.1) and sit atop the league-leaders at 35.4 rebounds per game. The Bulldogs are last in the league with a -2.29 turnover margin with 17.4 giveaways per game.

SERIES WITH BRYANT:
Maine and Bryant will meet for the 15th time. Maine currently holds an 11-3 edge in the all-time series and have won each of the last nine meetings, including an 87-64 triumph earlier this season in Orono behind four double-digit scoring efforts led by Gallego's game-high 23 points and 20 more from Bornemann. Maine is 4-2 on the road against the Bulldogs and have won four-straight at Bryant. The two teams first met in 2010, a 75-66 road victory for the Black Bears. The teams split the first six meetings of the all-time series.
