WATERVILLE, Maine -- After one day of competition at the Maine State Meet hosted by Colby College, the University of Maine women's swimming & diving team stands in third place with 210 points. The Black Bears registered six top-10 showings on day one.
Nicolene Harkins,
Charlotte Hoover, and
Amelia Obszarny each posted Maine's top marking of the day, each taking bronze in their events. Harkins placed third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.48 while Hoover came home third in the 50-yard backstroke at 26.61. Obszarny finished third in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.11 and added a sixth place finish in the 50-yard butterfly with a final time of 26.27.
Laura Dube finished fifth in both the 50-yard breaststroke (30.40) and the 200-yard IM (2:10.62) while
Eva Welsh took seventh in the 50-yard breaststroke at 30.98.
Alicia Littler tied for ninth in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.79.
Hoover, Obszarny,
Emily Yorkievitz, and Littler took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.97.
Hoover and Yorkievitz teamed with Jesse Lower and Joey Stauss to win the mixed 400-yard medley relay at 3:36.96.
