Preview: Black Bears set to battle Binghamton in America East semifinal

Maine will take on top-seeded Binghamton on Thursday in New York.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will take on top-seeded Binghamton in the America East Championship semifinal round on Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
 
Kickoff is set for 5 p.m., and the match will stream live on ESPN+.
 
The fourth-seeded Black Bears earned a fourth straight semifinal bid by defeating New Hampshire, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon in Orono. Binghamton and Maine have both advanced to the semifinal round for the fourth consecutive year, becoming the first team(s) to do that since Hartford 2013-16 (excluding COVID-reduced tournament 2021). The winner of the Maine-Binghamton semifinal will advance to the America East Championship title game on Sunday, Nov. 9.

ABOUT MAINE
• Maine finished the regular season at 4-7-3 overall and 3-3-2 in America East play to earn a home playoff game for the fourth consecutive season … the Black Bears are 5-7-3 overall.
• The Black Bears hosted rival New Hampshire in the quarterfinal round this past Sunday, earning a 2-1 win … after the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute, Jordane Pinette scored one minute into the second half and then Gillian Rovers delivered the eventual game-winning goal 20 minutes later.
• Maine has 11 different goal scorers in the season for the first time since 2022.
• Emma Nicholson leads Maine in points (8) and assist while sitting tied second with two goals … Nicholson led America East in conference games assists with three.
• Julie Lossius (3-1-7) and Abbey Thornton (3-1-7) are tied for the team lead in goals.
• The Black Bears tied for the America East lead in shots (130) and shots per game (16.25) during the regular season conference slate.
• In shots per game overall, Victoria Dungey (2.38) sits eighth in the conference while Nicholson (2.33) is 10th and Lossius is 14th (2.13).
 
ABOUT BINGHAMTON
• Binghamton enters Thursday's clash at 10-1-5 overall and riding a 13-game unbeaten streak … the Bearcats last played on Oct. 26, battling Vermont to a 1-1 tie.
• The Bearcats went 5-0-3 in America East play to earn the regular season title and the number one seed in the conference tournament.
• Jahkaya Davis (8-2-18) and Paige Luke (6-6-18) give Binghamton two players with 18 points each … Davis is fourth in the conference with 44 shots while Luke is fifth with 42.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs BINGHAMTON
• Maine holds an all-time record of 7-12-7 against Binghamton.
• These two teams met back on Oct. 5 in Binghamton, with the Bearcats picking up a 2-1 win … Binghamton scored in the 40th minute and then Abbey Thornton tied the game up an 81st minute header, only to see Jahkaya Davis break through less than two minutes later for the game-winning goal.
• The last five games in the series have been decided by one goal or less while eight of the last 10 have been decided by one goal or less.
• Thornton leads Maine in active scoring against Binghamton with her one goal for two points while Jordane Pinette and Hilary Washington each have one assist.
• The first-ever meeting came back in 2002 with the Black Bears and Bearcats battling to a 0-0 tie.
