Preview: #6 Maine readies for road test at #13/12 UMass

The teams will play on Thursday and Friday at the Mullins Center.

ORONO, Maine – The #6 University of Maine men's ice hockey team will travel to Massachusetts this week for a two-game series against the #13/12 UMass Minutemen on Thursday and Friday at the Mullins Center.
 
The Black Bears and Minutemen are set to face off at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6 and Friday, Nov. 7. Both conference tilts will stream on ESPN+, with an international stream available via Hockey East/Stretch Internet. Additionally, Friday night's game will air live on NESN. The games can also be listened to via 92.9 FM, 100.5 FM or online at GoBlackBears.com/MIHRadio.

WHAT'S ON TAP

• The University of Maine men's ice hockey team will head to UMass this week for a two-game series with the Minutemen ... the teams will meet Thursday and Friday at the Mullins Center.
• The Black Bears are coming off of a 5-4 overtime and 8-5 regulation win over Boston University ... the Minutemen went 1-1 against Cornell, winning 2-1 and losing 3-1.
• Last season, the teams went 1-1-1 in the series, with both teams picking up a home win and Maine additionally battling to a tie in Amherst.

• Bump Maine to 6-2-1 on the year.
• Move Maine to 63-29-11 in the all-time series with UMass, including a mark of 21-19-9 on the road.
• Give the Black Bears a 3-0-0 mark in Hockey East play.

ABOUT UMASS
• The Minutemen enter the Hockey East series at 6-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Hockey East play.
• UMass hosted a #20 Cornell squad this past weekend, picking up a 2-1 win on Friday night before dropping a 3-1 contest on Saturday.
• Jack Musa (6-7-13) and Vaclav Nestrasil (7-4-11) give the Minutemen two players in double-digit scoring … Francesco Dell'Elce has a team-leading two game-winning goals.
• UMass has a Hockey-East leading 320 shots so far this season.
• UMass boasts a 31.0 power-play percentage while killing off 76.0 percent of penalties.
• The Minutemen's one league game so far came against Northeastern, with the Huskies picking up a 4-2 win in Amherst on Oct. 17.

SERIES HISTORY vs UMASS
• Maine has an overall record of 62-29-11 in the all-time series with UMass, including a mark of 20-19-9 at the Mullins Center.
• The teams met three times during the 2024-25 season, with Maine going 1-1-1 ... the Black Bears earned a win in Orono and went 0-1-1 in Amherst.
• Maine won all three meetings in 2023-24, winning 1-0 on the road and 2-1 and 4-3 at home.
• Eight current Black Bears have at least one point against the Minutemen ... Brandon Holt (2-2-4), Josh Nadeau (2-2-4), Thomas Freel (2-2-4) and Frank Djurasevic (0-4-4) have four points each.
• Albin Boija earned his first career shutout in a 15-save road game at UMass on Feb. 3, 2024.
• The first-ever meeting in the series came on Jan. 26, 1979 at Alfond Arena, with Maine winning 8-3.
• Maine head coach Ben Barr spent five years as associate head coach at UMass ... his time in Amherst included a Hockey East regular season and tournament title, three NCAA tournament appearances, back-to-back NCAA title game appearances and the 2021 National Championship.
