ORONO, Maine – The Universiy of Maine women's basketball team begins the 2025 Turkey Tip-Off when its meets the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) on Friday with tip-off scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The Black Bears will take on either Saint Francis (PA) or Iona on day two with tip-off set for either noon or 2:30 p.m. All games will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Asta Blauenfeldt led Maine with 10 points in the University of Maine women's basketball team's 70-39 loss at Brown on Sunday afternoon.
The Black Bears dug themselves into a hole early, trailing 21-2 after one quarter, and were unable to battle their way back.
Blauenfeldt finished the day 3-of-5 from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw stripe as she extended her double-figure scoring streak to 10.
Sarah Talon and
Adrianna Smith each added six points while
Lizzy Gruber added five points, four rebounds, and a career-high four blocks.
Maine finished the game 15-of-57 (26.3) from the floor, including a 3-for-23 showing from three-point range, and were outrebounded 51-26.
A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears enter the weekend in search of their first road win of the season as they prepare for eight of their next 10 away from their home court.
Adrianna Smith, who recently moved into 13th on Maine's all-time scoring list with 1,249 points, ranks second in the America East in scoring (18.0), rebounding (9.0), and assists (4.4); each of which are team-highs. Smith, who also ranks second in the America East with three double-doubles on the season, has posted double-figure scoring efforts in four of Maine's first five.
Asta Blauenfeldt, riding a 10-game double-figure scoring streak, ranks in the top-10 among America East leaders in scoring (9th - 14.6), field goal percentage (8th-52.9), three-point field goal percentage (5th-43.8), and 3-point field goals per game (2nd-2.8). Blauenfeldt has hit four or more triples twice this season.
Kaliyah Sain, who transferred to Maine from Kirkwood Community College, is adding 9.2 points while checking in 10th in the league at 6.0 rebounds per game. Sain's 2.0 triples per outing rank fifth best in the America East. As a unit, Maine ranks eighth in the conference in scoring at 60.8 points per game and eighth in scoring defense, allowing 66.6 per outing. Maine checks in second among league leaders in rebounding (36.0) and lead the league at 26.4 triples per game. The Black Bears have won the turnover battle in four of five outings and rank 15th in the country at just 11.8 giveaways per game.
A LOOK AT UIC:
After starting the season 1-3, UIC enters action riding a two-game win streak with recent victories over Loyola Chicago (68-54) and Ball State (66-64). The Flames average 62.0 points per game and rank third in the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring defense, allowing just 66.2 per game. Much like the Black Bears, UIC does a good job protecting the ball and enter play ranked 28th in the country and tops in the MVC with just 12.7 giveaways per game. Jessica Carrothers leads three double-figure scorers for the Flames as she is averaging a team-high 17.2 points to go along with a team-best 4.2 assists. Julia Coleman is adding 13.2 points and team-high 7.2 rebounds while Amelia Strong is chipping in 13.0 points and 6.0 boards.
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE FIELD:
Maine will be competing against UIC for the first time in program history. Should Maine meet Iona on day two, it would also mark the first meeting between the two teams. Maine is 1-0 against Saint Francis in a lone meeting which came in 1999.
