Preview: Men's hockey entertains Colgate for non-conference series

Maine will host Colgate on Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25.

ORONO, Maine – The #10 University of Maine men's ice hockey team will host the Colgate Raiders for a two-game non-conference series on Friday and Saturday at Alfond Arena.
 
The Black Bears and Raiders are set to face off at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25. Both non-conference tilts will stream on ESPN+, with an international stream available via Hockey East/Stretch Internet. Additionally, the games can be listened to via 92.9 FM, 100.5 FM or online at GoBlackBears.com/MIHRadio.

WHAT'S ON TAP
• The University of Maine men's ice hockey team will host the Colgate Raiders for a two-game non-conference series this weekend.
• The Black Bears are coming off of a 0-1-1 weekend at Quinnipiac, playing to a 4-4 tie on Friday night before falling 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
• The Raiders hosted Canisius for two games, losing 4-2 on Friday night and bouncing back for a 5-3 win on Saturday.

• Bump the Black Bears to 3-1-1 on the year and 3-0-0 at Alfond Arena.
• Move Maine to 8-8-5 in the all-time series with Colgate.
• Give the University of Maine men's ice hockey the 950th win in program history.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs COLGATE
• Maine holds an all-time mark of 7-8-5 against Colgate.
• The teams last met for two games in Orono in January 2024 ... the Black Bears earned a 3-1 win and battled back from a 3-0 deficit to earn a 4-4 tie.
• Six Black Bears have at least one career point against Colgate, with Thomas Freel's two-goal, one-point outing in the 4-4 tie leading all active players while Sully Scholle and Brandon Holt have both scored against the Raiders.
• The first-ever meeting between the Black Bears and Raiders came on Dec. 9, 1978, with Colgate skating to a 5-2 win at home.
 
ABOUT COLGATE
• The Raiders enter the weekend at 1-2-1 overall after splitting a two-game series with Canisius this past weekend … Colgate lost 4-2 on Friday night before rebounding for a 5-3 win on Saturday.
• Jack Brandt has a team-leading seven points on two goals and five assists … four different Raiders have two goals each.
• Andrew Takacs and Reid Dyck have both started two games between the pipes … Takacs is 0-1-1 with a .929 save percentage and 2.42 goals against average while Dyck is 1-1-0 with a 4.02 goals against average and .855 save percentage.
• Colgate went 18-15-3 overall and 13-7-2 a season ago.

• Maine will host Boston University in the Hockey East opener next weekend.
