Preview: Women's Basketball set to host Bryant

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team (6-8, 1-0 AE) hosts Bryant (8-6, 1-0 AE) on Bananas Cub Club Day, presented by Bangor Savings Bank. Maine and Bryant will tip-off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4. Limited tickets for the game remain available at GoBlackBears.com/tickets.

Broadcast Details: Saturday's game will be live streamed on ESPN+. The game can also be heard on the Black Bears Sports Network at GoBlackBears.com and live in the Bangor region on 92.9 FM.

All Bananas Cub Club members are eligible to receive a free ticket to Saturday's game! All current Cub Club members may contact the Maine Athletics box office at (207) 581-2327 to request their free tickets to the game! Parents and guardians of Cub Club members may request discounted tickets at $6 each. Tickets purchased in advance will be sent out electronically. Tickets will also be available at the gate on gameday while supplies last.

The Black Bears will also host a postgame autograph session on the floor following Saturday's game with Bryant.

Maine has won 14 consecutive home games against conference opponents dating back to the 2022-23 season.

LAST TIME OUT:
LOWELL, Mass. -- The University of Maine women's basketball team began America East play with a 54-39 victory at UMass Lowell on Thursday evening.

Maine, which starts conference play 1-0 for the eighth consecutive year, moved to 23-2 all-time against the River Hawks as the Black Bears stretched their win streak over UMass Lowell to seven.

Asta Blauenfeldt led all scorers with 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc to post her fifth double-digit scoring effort in her last six outings. Caroline Bornemann added 12 points and nine rebounds, including the 600th of her career, while Olivia Rockwood hit 5-of-7 from the floor to finish with 12 points, six rebounds, and four steals.

Maine concluded the evening 20-of-43 (46.5) from the floor with nine triples while outrebounding the River Hawks, 32-24.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine enters play riding a seven-game conference win streak after opening league play with a 54-39 victory at UMass Lowell on Thursday evening. Caroline Bornemann leads Maine in scoring, checking in 10th in the league at 11.0 points per game with double-figures in eight of Maine's 14 games, including each of the last two. Bornemann ranks fourth in the league in rebounding (7.4) and among the top 20 in field goal percentage (41.6), assists (2.1), and tops in the league at 33.4 minutes. Bornemann recently became just the 20th player in program history to reach 600 career rebounds. Asta Blauenfeldt has registered double-figures and at least three triples in five of her last six outings. Blauenfeldt is averaging 9.3 points per game and leads Maine with an impressive 48.9 percent clip from three-point range and a team-high 52.9 percent overall showing from the floor. Caroline Dotsey has posted double-digit scoring efforts in six of her last eight, checking in at 9.4 points per game. Sharp-shooter Olivia Rockwood has double-figure scoring marks in four of her last five, averaging 11.0 over the span, with at least three triples in three of the five. Assist machine Paula Gallego is tops in America East with 3.9 helpers per game. Maine has hit 49 triple in its last four outings, averaging 12.3 per game over the stretch, including a school record 19 in the win over Bates. Maine ranks 21st in the country and tops in America East at 9.1 triples per game and 19th in the country with 27.0 attempts per game. Maine's 33.6 percent mark from beyond the mark is second best in America East.

A LOOK AT BRYANT:
The Bulldogs, 4-4 on the road this season, opened conference play with a 61-49 win at New Hampshire on Thursday evening. Bryant was led in the win by Mia Mancini's 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting with four triples. Nia Scott added a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. The Bulldogs enter play ranked sixth in the conference in scoring (58.9), fourth in scoring defense (59.4) and tops in rebounding at 36.1 boards per game. Bryant checks in ninth in the league with 19.4 giveaways per outing. Mancini leads Bryant in scoring at 11.9 points per game with a 32.6 percent clip from three-point range and team-best 2.8 assists. Nia Scott is the America East leader in rebounding at 9.4 per game. Breezie Williams (11.3 ppg) and Ali Brigham (11.6) round out Bryant's double-digit scorers.

SERIES WITH BRYANT:
Maine and Bryant will meet for the 14th time. Maine currently holds a 9-3 edge in the all-time series and have won each of the last eight meetings, including both last season by scores of 80-57 and 70-58. Maine is 5-1 at home against the Bulldogs and have won five straight on its home court in the series. Bryant has not won in Maine since 2011. The two teams first met in 2010, a 75-66 road victory for the Black Bears. The teams split the first six meetings of the all-time series.
