Preview: Women's Basketball travels to take on New Hampshire in Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle

Black Bears have won eight-straight against UNH

ORONO, Maine -- Following a three-game homestand, Maine returns to the road looking for its fourth consecutive win when it visits New Hampshire for the 105th all-time meeting with the Wildcats in the Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle on Thursday at 6 p.m. Maine has won eight in a row against the Wildcats.

ORONO, Maine -- Caroline Dotsey registered a game-high 20 points as the Black Bears earned their third consecutive victory with a convincing 74-44 decision over UMass Lowell on Thursday evening at Skip Chappelle Court.

The win moved Maine to 5-2 in league play, 10-10 overall while the River Hawks dropped to 2-16 and 0-6 in league play.

Dotsey, who has now posted double-digits in four of her last five outings, finished the night 8-of-10 from the floor with four triples for 20 points. Bornemann added 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting to go along with five rebounds while Paula Gallego packed the stat sheet with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Asta Blauenfeldt rounded out four double-figure scorers with 10 points.

Maine again posted a strong shooting performance, finishing 30-of-51 (58.8) with nine triples including a strong 8-of-12 showing in the third quarter.

The Black Bears also dominated the glass, outrebounding UMass Lowell 38-20 while limiting the River Hawks to just 21-of-54 (38.9) from the floor, 0-6 from three point range.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears enter play riding their longest win streak of the season at three. Over the three game span, Maine is averaging 68.7 points per game while limiting the opposition to just 49.7. Caroline Bornemann, who has double-digit scoring in three of her last four, ranks second in conference only play at 15.7 points and leads the league in conference only rebounding at 9.3. Overall, Bornemann leads Maine at 12.6 points and 8.0 rebounds with six double-doubles. Caroline Dotsey provides Maine's spark of the bench, ranking second on the roster at 9.9 points. Asta Blauenfeldt is chipping in 9.3 points with a 40.9 percent mark form three-point range and a 49.3 percent showing from the floor. Paula Gallego is the floor general for Maine, checking in second in the conference at 4.0 assists per game with a league-leading 1.9 assist to turnover ratio. Gallego has tallied 16 assists to just five turnovers in her last four outings with five games this season of zero turnovers. Olivia Rockwood leads Maine's fierce three-point threat, ranking first in the conference and 34th nationally with a 42.3 percent mark from downtown and 2.1 triples per game, second most in the league. Maine continues to set the tone from three-point range in the league, leading the America East at 8.7 triples made per game with a league-high 26.0 attempts from downtown. Maine's 33.3 percent showing from long-range ranks third in the conference. The Black Bears also excel in ball protection as the league-leaders in assists (16.1) and assist to turnover ratio (1.19) with just 13.6 giveaways per outing. In conference play, Maine's offense leads the way at 65.9 points per game.

A LOOK AT NEW HAMPSHIRE:
The Wildcats are 8-13, 2-6 in the league, under first-year head coach Megan Shoniker and enter play 4-4 at home but riding a two game losing skid after dropping a 56-54 decision to UMass Lowell. UNH has lost its last two games by a total of three points after suffering a one-point setback to Bryant. The Wildcats enter play with the league's last ranked three-point defense and will face a top-tier Maine three-point offense. The Wildcats rank eighth in the America East in scoring (53.7) and third in scoring defense (58.3) while forcing 16.3 turnovers, second best in the league. Eva DeChent leads UNH in scoring at 17.2 points per game, second best among league leaders. Maggie Cavanaugh is adding 9.6 points and 4.1 rebounds while Clara Gomez is averaging 5.2 points and a team-best 7.0 boards.

SERIES WITH NEW HAMPSHIRE:
Maine and New Hampshire will meet for the 105th time in their storied history. The Black Bears enter play with a 68-36 advantage in the series and have matched up against UNH more times than any of its other opponents. Maine has won eight in a row against the Wildcats, sweeping last season's series by scores of 67-48 and 78-52. Maine has won four in a row on the road against New Hampshire as the Wildcats. Maine is 25-16 on the road against the Wildcats. The two teams first met in 1920, a 15-13 victory by the Wildcats.
