PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The University of Maine women's swimming & diving team posted six individual victories and a relay win in a 173-127 loss at Providence College on Saturday afternoon.
Nicolene Harkins led Maine with a pair of win in the distance category for the Black Bears. Harkins touched the wall first in the 800 SC meter freestyle at 9:28.65 before taking the victory in the 400-meter freestyle at 4:33.02.
Eva Welsh also posted two victories for Maine, taking gold in both the 200-meter breaststroke (2:43.14) and the 200 IM (2:26.57) while adding a runner-up showing in the 100-meter breaststroke with a final time of 1:15.85.
Hannah Deighan added a win in the 50-meter freestyle event with a time of 27.71.
On the boards,
Ashley LeClaire stood atop the podium in first in the second round of the 1-meter with a score of 265.50 after taking runner-up honors in the first round of the event with a score of 251.03.
Maddie Ruppert took a pair of bronze showings in the event with scores of 249.68 and 252.98.
Charlotte Hoover was the runner-up in the 100-meter butterfly at 1:07.04.
Liz Stoelzel placed third in the 50-meter freestyle (27.84),
Madison Edwards took third in the 200-meter backstroke (2:24.97), and
Ainslie Boswell was third in the 200-meter breaststroke with a final time of 2:49.38.
Maine's team of Deighan,
Laura Dube,
Carmen Braden, and
Mia Poirier teamed up to take gold in the 200-meter freestyle relay with a final time of 1:51.51.
Marlee Canale, Welsh,
Morgan Thompson, and Stoelzel placed second in the 200-meter medley relay at 2:03.29.
Maine returns to action when they take part in the four-day America East Championship meet, hosted by VMI, Feb. 19-22.
