Preview: Women's Basketball set for Saturday showdown at UAlbany

ORONO, Maine -- Maine concludes its two-game road trip through New York with its 56th career meeting with UAlbany on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Black Bears, who won the latest meeting against the Great Danes a year ago in Orono, are 17-16 all-time on the road against UAlbany and will be looking for its first win in the capital region since 2022.

LAST TIME OUT:
VESTAL, N.Y. -- Olivia Rockwood led the Black Bears (7-9, 2-1 AE) with 20 points in a 69-59 loss at Binghamton (10-6, 2-1) on Thursday evening. The loss snaps Maine's 11-game win streak against the Bearcats.

Rockwood finished the evening 7-of-13 from the floor with six triples. Paula Gallego and Caroline Dotsey joined Rockwood in double-figures, each posting 10 points in the contest. Asta Blauenfeldt added seven points and five assists.

Maine, which shot 22-of-60 from the floor with nine triples, controlled the boards by a 35-24 margin including 16 offensive rebounds.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine, 8-1 in its last nine meetings with America East competition, looks to go 1-1 on its current road trip after suffering a 10-point setback at Binghamton on Thursday evening. The Black Bears are led by Caroline Bornemann who ranks ninth in the America East at 11.1 points per game with double-figure scoring in three of her last four including a season-high 20 point effort against Bryant. Bornemann also ranks among the top-5 in America East in rebounding (2nd - 7.4) and field goal percentage (4th - 42.3) while recently moving into 27th on Maine's all-time scoring list at 967 career points. Asta Blauenfeldt is adding 9.4 points with impressive shooting performances of 50.5 percent overall and 44.6 percent clip from three-point range. Blauenfeldt, who ranks sixth in the league at 3.3 assists per game, has hit three or more triples in five of her last eight outings. Paula Gallego, who posted career-highs in points (23) and three-pointers (5) against Bryant, ranks second in the America East in assists (3.9) with a league-leading 1.75 assist to turnover ratio. Gallego has 34 assists to just eight turnovers in her last seven games with zero giveaways in three of the seven. Gallego has five or more assists in six games thus far. Olivia Rockwood, who matched her season-high with 20 points last time out, leads the America East in three-point percentage (44.2). Her percentage ranks 20th in the NCAA. Rockwood checks in third in the league at 2.1 triples made per game and has twice recorded a season-high six triples, including at Binghamton last time out. Maine, which ranks fourth in the league in scoring (60.9) and seventh in defense (61.9), check in tops among the league and 21st nationally with 9.1 triples per game and second in America East with a 34.2 percent clip from downtown. Maine's offensive efficiency is showcased with the top ranked assist mark in the league (15.9) and best assist/turnover mark (1.13).  

A LOOK AT UALBANY:
The Great Danes, a perfect 8-0 at home this season, enter play riding a three-game win streak including a most recent 59-32 victory over New Hampshire. UAlbany, allowing just 42.0 points per game to oppositions in league play, boast the nation's 15th ranked defense at just 54.6 points per game allowed with the nation's sixth-ranked three-point defense (23.5%). Offensively, UAlbany ranks second in the conference at 66.2 points per game. Kayla Cooper leads the America East in scoring at 17.4 points per game with a league-high 58.7 clip from the floor and team-high 7.4 rebounds. Kacy Donovan is adding 12.8 points with a league-best 34 triples made and a 38.6 percent mark from three-point range. Lilly Phillips rounds out UAlbany's double-digit scoring at 10.1 points per game.

SERIES WITH UALBANY:
Maine and UAlbany will square off for the 56th time in history, including nine post season. The two teams split last year, with each team winning on its home court, as the Black Bears snapped a three-game losing skid to the Great Danes with a 63-46 victory in Orono's season finale. The Black Bears have won 13 of the last 17 meetings. Maine holds a 32-23 edge in the all-time series. Maine is 17-16 on the road against UAlbany. Maine is 4-5 in postseason play against UAlbany. Maine last win at UAlbany came on Feb. 23, 2022, a 49-45 decision.
