Daytona Beach, FL - The University of Maine baseball team was defeated by Bethune-Cookman in the series opener, 6-5.

First Pitch: 7 P.M. (Bethune-Cookman, 6-5)

Second Inning: Bethune-Cookman got the board first as they had an RBI single in the first frame.

Third Inning: Maine had a quick answer to the run scored in the second as they plated their first run of the game in the third on a fielder's choice play. Jake Marquez earned the RBI as Myles Sargent (1B) scored on the play.

Bethune-Cookman scored two runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 3-1.

Fourth Inning: Colin Plante plated the Black Bears second run of the night on a single to right field. Dean O'Neill (HBP) scored on the play.

Fifth Inning: Maine tied the contest up at 3-3 as Jeremiah Jenkins (1B) scored on an error.

Bethune-Cookman hit a two-run home run to center field in response.

Sixth Inning: Jeremiah Jenkins launched his fourth home run of the season in the sixth inning, a two-run shot to right field as he re-tied the game at 5-5. Nick White (1B) scored on the play.

Marashall Smaracko began the sixth inning on the mound for Maine. Gianni Gambardella allowed 5 runs on 8 hits, 2 walks and striking out 6.

Bethune-Cookman stole home to make it 6-5.

Seventh Inning: Luc Lavigueur began the seventh inning on the mound for Maine. Smaracko allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 1 strikeout in his 1 inning of work.

Eighth Inning: Owen Wheeler began the eighth on the mound for Maine. Lavigueur allowed no runs on 1 hit, 2 walks and 1 strikeout in his inning of work.

Wheeler allowed no runs on 2 walks in his inning of work.

Bethune-Cookman picked up the win, 6-5.

Maine (1-9) is back in action on Saturday for game two of the weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M.
