PREVIEW: Black Bears host UAlbany with America East regular season title on the line

Black Bears will recognize seniors, alumnae, 2003-04 team

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team hosts UAlbany with the America East regular season title and top-seed in the upcoming America East tournament on the line. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Limited tickets to the game will be available beginning at 11:30 a.m. on game day in the lobby of Memorial Gymasium.

Promotions:
The first 1,500 fans into the gym will receive a rally towel, courtesy of Bangor Savings Bank. The Black Bears will recognize their seniors, Anna Kahelin and Anne Simon, pregame before honoring the alumnae, including the 2003-04 team on the 20th anniversary of its America East championship, at halftime.

Saturday's game will be live streamed on ESPN+. The game can also be heard on the Black Bears Sports Network and live on 100.5 FM  in the Bangor market.

LAST TIME OUT:
Bangor, Maine -- Following a power outage which forced the game to move to Bangor's Cross Insurance Center, the University of Maine's women's basketball team defeated Binghamton 57-51 to remain perfect at home in league play.

The win moves Maine to 20-9 overall and 13-2 in America East play as the Black Bears are locked in a tie atop the America East standings with UAlbany.

Maine's win total marks the second time in the past three seasons in which it has reached the 20-win plateau.

Anne Simon posted her third consecutive double-double as she led all scorers with 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Adrianna Smith added eight points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists while Sarah Talon chipped in nine and Olivia Rockwood eight.

Maine dominated the boards, collecting 46 rebounds to Binghamton's 28 while hitting 7-of-16 triples in the win.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine is 10-2 on its home court this season and undefeated in league play at home (7-0) this year. In total, dating back to last season, Maine has won its last 10 home games against America East competition at home. Overall, Maine has won eight of its last nine outings including a most recent 57-51 decision over Binghamton in a game that was moved to Bangor's Cross Insurance Center. Anne Simon, sixth on Maine's all-time scoring list and 12th on the America East all-time scoring list, enters play as the league's leader in scoring at 18.7 points per game. Simon has posted double-digit scoring efforts in each of her last eight outings with double-doubles in her last three games. Simon, who ranks third in the league in rebounding (7.3), checks in second in the league in steals (2.4) with a league-leading 34.9 minutes per game. Adrianna Smith ranks third in the country with 20 double-doubles and has posted double-digit scoring totals in 16 of her last 17 games with double-digit rebounding totals in each of her last three. Smith ranks third in the league in scoring (16.2), first in rebounding (11.2), and second in assists (4.4). Against league competition, Smith is averaging 18.2 points and 11.9 rebounds; both league-highs. The Black Bears have hit double-digit threes in three of their last six outings and currently lead the America East at 7.7 triples per game. Maine ranks 17th in the country with just 12.5 turnovers per game. Against league competition, Maine ranks tops in scoring offense as it is averaging 65.7 points per game in America East play.

A LOOK AT UALBANY:
The Great Danes bring the nation's top ranked defense into Orono as UAlbany is allowing just 50.8 points per game this season and holding opponents to a 36.7 percent mark from the floor, tops in the America East. Offensively, UAlbany ranks second to Maine in scoring at 62.5 points per game with the nation's sixth-best three-point shooting percentage (38.6). Individually, Kayla Cooper paces UAlbany with team-highs in scoring (15.5) and rebounding (7.5). Cooper is second in the America East in rebounding and fourth in scoring. Helene Haegerstrand is adding 9.4 points with a 35.6 percent clip from downtown while Deja Evans is adding 8.8 points and 7.1 boards. UAlbany has won six of its last seven outings including each of their last two.

SERIES WITH UALBANY:
Maine and UAlbany will square off for the 55th time in history, including nine post season meetings, in a game which will decide the America East regular season champion. UAlbany has won three-straight against the Black Bears, including a 54-47 decision earlier this year in Albany. In that game, Adrianna Smith led Maine with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Black Bears have won 12 of the last 16 meetings. Maine holds a 31-23 edge in the all-time series. Maine is 14-7 at home all-time against UAlbany. Smith has posted double-digit scoring efforts in each of her last four contests against UAlbany and enters play averaging 13.3 points and 6.2 rebounds in six career games with the Danes. Simon has posted double-digit scoring against the Great Danes in eight of her 10 career games in the all-time series. Maine is 4-5 in postseason play against UAlbany.
