Orono, Maine -- Maine closes out its non-conference slate when it travels to take part in the FDU Christmas Classic on Dec. 28 and 29. The Black Bears will open play on Saturday against FDU at 4 p.m. before meeting Coppin State on Sunday at 1 p.m. Maine will be taking on both FDU and Coppin State for the first time in history.

LAST TIME OUT:
ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team set a new school-record with 19 three-point field goals made in a convincing 96-39 victory over Bates College on Saturday afternoon.
The Black Bears finished the afternoon 19-of-38 (50.0%) from beyond the arc to break the old record of 16 made triples which the program had previously accomplished three-times, the last in 2019.
Maine, which shot 33-of-63 (52.4) from the field overall, held a 45-34 edge in rebounding and posted an impressive defensive effort as it held Bates to just 12-of-54 (22.2) shooting while limiting the Bobcats to just 11 total points in the first half.
Olivia Rockwood paced five Maine double-digit scorers with a game-high 20 points on 6-of-7 from beyond the arc and 7-of-8 total from the field.
Caroline Dotsey posted her fourth double-figure scoring performance in her last five outings with 14 points and four assists while
Asta Blauenfeldt and
Jaycie Christopher each contributed 13.
Sera Hodgson rounded out the double-digit performances with 11 points as Maine posted five double-digit scorers for the first time since 2022.
A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine is coming off a record-breaking performance in which it knocked down a school-record 19 triples in a win over Bates. Eight different players hit at least one three in the win, led by
Olivia Rockwoods 6-of-7 performance from beyond the arc. The Black Bears enter the weekend ranked 23rd nationally and tops in the America East at 8.8 three point field goals made per game to go along with a conference leading 27.0 attempts from downtown per game. Maine is led by
Caroline Bornemann who is averaging 11.0 points per game to go along with an America East high four double-doubles on the year. Bornemann also leads the Black Bears in rebounding at 7.5 per contest. The graduate forward ranks 11th in the America East in scoring and third in rebounding.
Asta Blauenfeldt, who is averaging 8.2 points per outing, stretched her double-digit scoring streak to three-straight with a 13 point outing against Bates. Her 2.7 assists per game rank ninth best in the conference.
Caroline Dotsey has given Maine a spark off the bench with 8.6 points per game including double-digits in four of her last five.
Sarah Talon is chipping in 8.6 points while
Paula Gallego ranks second in the conference in assists (3.7) and tops with a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio.
A LOOK AT FDU:
The Knights enter action winners of four of their last five outings including a 91-52 win against Saint Michael's on Dec. 19. FDU, 4-0 this season on its home court, has been extremely effective this season in ball protection as it ranks tops in the NEC and 30th nationally with just 13.4. Offensively, FDU ranks tops in the NEC at 7.7 triples made per game with a 34.1 percent mark from beyond the arc. Teneisia Brown, nearly averaging a double-double, leads the way with 13.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Ava Renninger is adding 13.2 points and 4.2 rebounds.
SERIES WITH FDU/COPPIN STATE:
Maine will be meeting both FDU and Coppin State for the first time in program history. Maine is 19-5 all-time against current NEC member programs, including an 87-75 victory earlier this season at Stonehill.
