Preview: Black Bears head to Boston for top-5 matchup with BC

#5 Maine face #2 Boston College in a top-5 two-game series on Friday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 10.

ORONO, Maine – The #5 University of Maine men's ice hockey team will travel to #2 Boston College this weekend for a top-5 two-game series on Friday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 10.
 
Puck drop on Friday is set for 7 p.m. while Sunday's game will start at 1 p.m., with both games at Kelley Rink at Conte Forum. Friday's game will air live on NESN and both tilts will stream on ESPN+, with an international stream available via Hockey East/Stretch Internet. The games can also be listened to via 92.9 FM or online at GoBlackBears.com/MIHRadio.

WHAT'S ON TAP
• #5 Maine and #2 Boston College will meet for a top-5 series this weekend at Conte Forum.
• These two teams met twice in Orono last season, with Maine going 1-0-1 with a 4-2 victory and a 2-2 tie.
• Last weekend, the Black Bears swept Merrimack at home, 5-0 and 6-0 ... the Eagles went on the road and swept #10 St. Cloud, 4-1 and 2-1.
• This is the first top-10 meeting between BC and Maine since Nov. 19 and 21, 2010 and the first top-5 clash since April 8, 2004.

• Move Maine to 6-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in Hockey East play.
• Bump the Black Bears to 58-71-11 in the all-time series with Boston College, including a mark of 19-35-6 in away games.
• Give Maine its first unbeaten start through eight games since 2006-07.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs BOSTON COLLEGE
• Maine holds a record of 57-71-11 in the all-time series with Boston College ... the Black Bears are 18-35-6 against the Eagles on the road.
• This is the first top-5 meeting between the Black Bears and Eagles since April 8, 2004 when #1 Maine defeated #4 Boston College in the 2004 NCAA Tournament semifinal, 2-1.
• This is the first top-10 meeting between BC and Maine since Nov. 19 and 21, 2010 when a #3/3 Maine squad traveled to #9/10 Boston College and dropped both games, 4-0 and 4-1.
• The Black Bears are riding a seven-game unbeaten streak in the series and are 5-3-2 in the last 10 meetings.
• Maine went 1-0-1 against Boston College last season, with both games coming at Alfond Arena ... on Nov. 10, 2023, the Black Bears upset a then #1 Boston College squad, 4-2 ... the next night, the teams battled to a 2-2 tie.
• Twelve current Black Bears have at least one career point against the Eagles ... Lynden Breen (4-5-9) is Maine's active scoring leader against BC while David Breazeale has chipped in five assists and Nolan Renwick (1-3-4) and Grayson Arnott (2-2-4) have recorded four points.
 
ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE
• The Eagles enter the weekend at 5-1-0 and are coming off of a two-game sweep at #10 St. Cloud State … this weekend marks the Hockey East opener for BC.
• Gabe Perreault (5-5-10) and James Hagens (1-9-10) are tied for the team lead in points … Perreault has two game-winning goals and two power-play goals.
• Between the pipes, Jacob Fowler is 5-1-0 with a .943 save percentage and 1.34 goals against average.
• The Eagles' lone loss on the season came on the road at then-#4 Michigan State.
• BC's power-play unit is converting at a 20 percent clip while the penalty-kill unit has gone 13-for-13.
• Boston College, who appeared in the 2024 National Championship game, was picked to finish first in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll.

• Maine will return home to host Boston University on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16.
