Preview: Black Bears hit the road to face Northeastern

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team will travel to Boston, Mass. to face the Northeastern Huskies for two games on Nov. 15/16 at Matthews Arena. Both games will stream on ESPN+, with an international stream available via Hockey East/Stretch Internet.

BLACK BEARS' LAST TIME OUT:

  • Maine was swept by the #13 Boston College Eagles this weekend by scores of 3-1 and 5-1.
  • Despite outshooting the Eagles in both games, the Black Bears were defeated both nights.
  • Gracie Hanson tallied Maine's lone goal on Friday - the first of her career, with Raegan Wurm and Mira Seregely earning assists.
  • Alyssa Wruble tallied Maine's lone goal on Saturday on the powerplay, for her fourth of the season. Wruble currently leads Maine in goals this season.
  • Kiia Lahtinen made 48 saves between the two games. Lahtinen has started the last eight straight games for the Black Bears.

  • Maine's PK remains in 8th place nationally, at 87.8% after the team killed 4-of-5 penalties off successfully this weekend.

PREVIOUS MATCHUPS WITH THE HUSKIES:
  • Maine defeated the then #14 ranked Eagles once last season, of the three games they faced.
  • Maine won 1-0 in overtime in the first game, tied 1-1 in game two, and lost 4-0 in the final matchup
  • Sam Morrison notched a goal in the tie game
  • Maine also defeated the Huskies in 2022 when they were ranked #3 nationally, which accounted for coach Molly Engstrom's first win against a ranked team

  • Northeastern most recently swept the No. 10 ranked UConn Huskies, 1-0 in both games.

  • Freshman goaltender Lisa Jönsson earned back-to-back shutouts over UConn this past weekend.
LOOKING AHEAD:
• Maine travels to Vermont for a single game on Sunday, Nov. 24
• To round out November, the Black Bears will host #1 Wisconsin for a non-conference matchup at Alfond Arena. Maine has not faced Wisconsin since 2003, back when Head Coach Molly Engstrom played for Wisconsin.
