Baseball Clinches Top-Seed in America East Tournament with Sunday's Shutout Victory, 6-0

Box Score Union, NJ – The University of Maine baseball team shutout the NJIT Highlanders in the Sunday series finale, 6-0. Maine has clinched a bye in the America East Tournament with the victory.
 
Second Inning: Ryan Turenne got the Black Bears on the board first as he hit a sac-fly to right field, scoring Connor Goodman (1B).
 
Jake Marquez made it a 2-0 Black Bear lead as he hit a sac-fly to left field, scoring Nick White (1B).
 
Fourth Inning: Ryan Turenne kept the bats going for the Black Bears as he singled home Connor Goodman (BB) with the bases loaded.
 
Jake Marquez made it 5-0 Black Bears as he singled to left field, scoring a pair of runs in the form of Nick White (1B) and Matt McElwain (1B).
 
Fifth Inning: Liam Reiner was called on to begin the fifth inning for NJIT on the mound. Joe Georgini allowed 5 runs in his 4 innings of work. He allowed 7 hits, 3 walks and struck out 3 batters.
 
Jeremiah Jenkins welcomed the new arm to the contest as he hit a solo home run to center field, his 18th of the season and driving in his 70th RBI of the season.
 
Seventh Inning: Aaron Park was called on to begin the seventh inning for NJIT on the mound. Reiner allowed 1 run on 1 hit and 1 strikeout across his 2 innings of work.
 
Tyler Nielsen began the seventh inning on the mound for the Black Bears. Noah Lewis was dominate it in his start as he fired off 6 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits, 1 walk and striking out 4.
 
Ninth Inning: Brandon Peterson began the ninth inning on the mound for NJIT. Park fired off 2 shutout innings of relief, allowing 2 hits and striking out 2 batters.
 
Ryan Scott began the ninth inning on the mound for the Black Bears. Tyler Nielsen up the went 2 innings in relief as he allowed no runs on no hits, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
 
Noah Lewis (6-1) picked up the victory for Maine.
 
Ryan Scott fired a scoreless ninth inning as he allowed 1 hit and 1 walk.
 
Joe Georgini (3-6) took the loss for NJIT.
 
Maine (26-19, 16-5 AE) was clinched a top-two seed in the America East Tournament as they return to Orono for Senior Weekend on May 18-20 at Mahaney Diamond. Senior game will be Friday, May 19 beginning at 3:40 P.M.
