Box Score Vestel, NY – The University of Maine baseball team suffered their first loss of the America East Conference season as they were defeated by the Binghamton Bearcats, 18-17.
 
First Inning: Jeremiah Jenkins got the Black Bears going early as he doubled home Jake Rainess (2B) in the opening frame.
 
Connor Goodman added onto the lead as he singled to right center, scoring Jenkins (2B) on the play.
 
Jake Marquez made it a three-run opening inning for the Black Bears he singled to right field, scoring Goodman (1B).
 
Binghamton scored their opening two runs of the contest on a pair of bases loaded walks. Evin Sullivan grabbed the lead for his squad as he doubled home a pair of runs to make it 4-3 Bearcats.
 
Blaine Cockburn's day came to an end in the first inning as he couldn't get out of the opening inning of the contest. Cockburn allowed 5 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks across just 1/3 of an inning. Ryan Scott was called on in with 1 out and runners on second and third.
 
Binghamton scored their fifth run of the opening frame on a wild pitch.
 
Second Inning: Jeremiah Jenkins made it back-to-back innings with an RBI as he singled home Jake Rainess (1B/SBx2).
 
Connor Goodman put the Black Bears back in front as he hit his second home run of the season, this one being a two-run home run to left field, scoring Jenkins (1B).
 
Third Inning: Tommy Reifler tied the contest up at 6-6 as he singled home a run.
 
Fourth Inning: Quinn McDaniel put the Black Bears back in front as he doubled to left field, scoring Colin Plante (2B) and Jake Rainess (HBP).
 
Binghamton called on Dan McAliney in relief following the McDaniel double. Gabe Driscoll allowed 9 runs on 10 hits, 1 hit batter and striking out 4 across his 3 innings of relief.
 
Jeff Mejia capped off the three-run inning for the Black Bears as he hit an RBI single to left field, scoring McDaniel (2B).
 
Colton Carson began the fourth inning of the mound for the Black Bears. Ryan Scott turned in a solid relief appearance as he allowed just 1 run across 2 and 2/3 innings of work. He allowed 3 hits and struck out 3 batters.
 
Fifth Inning; Mike Stellrecht singled home a run for the Bearcats. Cavan Tully drew a bases loaded walk to make it a one-run game at 9-8.
 
Mike Gunning tied the contest up with a bases loaded walk.
 
Colton Carson's day came to an end as he allowed 6 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks across 1 inning of work. Andrew Chevarie was called on with the bases loaded and no one out in the fifth inning.
 
Nick Roselli singled home a pair of runs to grab the lead back for the Bearcats at 11-9.
 
Binghamton added one more run on a wild pitch.
 
Sixth Inning: Jeremiah Jenkins kept his perfect game going as he hit a run-scoring triple to center field, plating Quinn McDaniel (1B) on the play.
 
John Lumpinski was called on in relief following the triple by Jenkins. McAliney allowed 2 runs across 2 innings of work on 4 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout.
 
Connor Goodman plated Jenkins (3B) three pitches later as he hit a single off the left field wall.
 
Dean O'Neill tied the contest up at 12-12 as he hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Goodman (1B).
 
Jake Rainess broke the game open for the Black Bears as he hit a grand slam to right center, scoring Jake Marquez (BB), Colin Plante (1B) and Dean O'Neill (1B).
 
Alex Henderson was called on to get out of the sixth inning as Lumpinski allowed 5 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk across 2/3 of an inning of work.
 
Luc Lavigueur was called on to begin the sixth inning for the Black Bears. Andrew Chevarie allowed no runs on 1 hit in his 1 inning of work.
 
Mike Gunning plated 2 runs on a double to left field made it a two-run contest at 16-14 in favor of the Black Bears.
 
Seventh Inning: Tommy Reifler singled home a run to make it a one-run contest.
 
Geoff Mosseau was called on with the bases loaded and only one out in the seventh inning. Lavigueur allowed 5 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks, 1 hit batter and 1 strikeout across 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
 
Mike Stellrecht plated two on a double to right field to welcome the new arm to the contest.
 
Binghamton plated one more run in the frame on a groundout. The Bearcats led 18-16 after seven innings.
 
Eighth Inning: Quinn McDaniel kept the bats going as he plated Colin Plante (1B) on an RBI double to left center.
 
Ninth Inning: Jack Collins was called on in relief to begin the ninth inning for the Bearcats Alex Hendersen lasted 2 and 1/3 innings in relief, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, 2 walks and striking out 2.
 
Alex Hendersen (1-0) picked up the win for the Bearcats.
 
Luc Lavigueur (0-3) took the loss for the Black Bears.
 
Jack Collins (5) picked up the save for the Bearcats as he allowed no runs in the ninth inning on 1 hit and 1 strikeout.
 
Maine (17-12, 11-1) returns to Orono for their next five games. Their first game back is on Thursday, Apr. 20 as they take on Thomas College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 P.M.
