Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep of UMass Lowell on Saturday

Maine Begins Conference Play 6-0, Their Best Start Since 2012

Box Score Orono, ME – The University of Maine baseball team completed the weekend sweep over UMass Lowell as the took game three of the weekend, 6-3.
 
First Inning: Jeremiah Jenkins got the Black Bears going early as he hit his ninth home run of the year, this one being a two-run shot to right field. Jake Rainess (BB) scored on the play.
 
Third Inning: Alex Luccini got the River Hawks on the board with an RBI single.
 
Fifth Inning: Gerry Siracusa tied the contest up at 2-2 as he singled home a run.
 
Quinn McDaniel re-grabbed the lead for the Black Bears as he hit a solo home run to left field. The home run was his seventh of the year.
 
Sixth Inning: Ryan Proto tied the contest up with a double to left field.
 
Michael Simes began the sixth inning on the mound for the River Hawks. Nick DiRiote went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks and striking out 2.
 
Simes failed to record an out as he allowed 2 runs on 1 hit and 1 walk. Joshua Becker was called on in relief.
 
Myles Sargent took the lead back for the Black Bears as he hit a line drive double down the left field line, scoring Colin Plante (BB).
 
Dylan McNary kept the sixth inning going for Maine as he hit a two-run home run to right field, his sixth home run of the season and second of the weekend. Myles Sargent (2B) scored on the play.
 
Eighth Inning: Colton Carson came on in relief for the Black Bears to begin the eighth inning. Noah Lewis turned in his fifth quality start of the season and third consecutive as he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, 2 walk and striking out 6.
 
Noah Lewis (3-1) picked up the win for the Black Bears.
 
Michael Simes (0-2) took the loss for UMass Lowell.
 
Andrew Chevarie (1) picked up his first collegiate save as he pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing 1 hit and 1 walk while turning over a double play.
 
Maine (12-11, 6-0 AE) begins the conference portion of their schedule with their best record since 2012.
 
Maine remains at home to face off against UAlbany on the weekend of Apr. 7-9.
