Box Score Rock Hill, SC – The University of Maine baseball team came away with the victory in the series finale against Winthrop on Sunday afternoon, 10-7 in extra innings.
 
Fourth Inning: Matt McElwain scores the first run of the contest as he laid down a sac-bunt to the first basemen, scoring Connor Goodman (1B).
 
Winthrop answered as McKinley Erves stole home in the bottom of the frame. Brody Hopkins scoring on an error later in the frame. Ramses Cordova hit a sac fly and Nate Chronis scored on a wild pitch to make it a 4-run inning for Winthrop.
 
Fifth Inning: Maine got one back as Jake Rainess (1B/SB) scored on a wild pitch thrown by Riley Huge.
 
Following a walk by Quinn McDaniel and a single for Jeremiah Jenkins, Winthrop went to their bullpen as they called on Brody Hopkins from center field to pitch.
 
Huge lasted 4 and 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits, 3 walks and striking out 5.
 
Sixth Inning: Jake Rainess grabbed the Black Bears their first lead of the afternoon as he hit a no-doubt grand slam to left field, scoring Myles Sargent (HBP), Matt McElwain (HBP) and Colby Emmertz (BB). The home run was Rainess's fourth of the season and second of the weekend.
 
Seventh Inning: Nate Butcher began the seventh inning for Winthrop, spelling the end of the day for Brody Hopkins on the mound. Hopkins allowed 4 earned runs on 2 hits, 1 walk and striking out 3.
 
Butcher was chased from the contest in the same frame he was called upon as Winthrop turned to Parker Whittle in the seventh inning. Butcher lasted just 2/3 of the inning, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk and 1 hit batter.
 
Justin Baeyens was called on in relief of Noah Lewis in the seventh inning. Lewis's strong start to the season continued as he allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits, 6 walks and striking out 3 across 6 full innings.
 
McKinley Erves drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 6-5 game. Ricky Teal scored on a fielder's choice later in the frame to tie up the contest.
 
Ty Hooks gave his squad the lead on a single to center field.
 
Eighth Inning: Jeremiah Jenkins tied the contest up at 7-7 as he hit a sac fly to center field, scoring Jake Rainess (BB/SBx2).
 
Gianni Gambardella takes over on the mound in the bottom of the frame for the Black Bears, relieving Justin Baeyens. Baeyens allowed 3 earned runs on 4 hits and 1 strikeout across his 1 inning of work.
 
Ninth Inning: Aaron White began the ninth inning for Winthrop, bringing the end of the day for Parker Whittle. Whittle threw 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing 1 earned run on no hits, 1 walk and striking out 1.
 
White faced his one batter, retiring him on a groundout before Winthrop turned to Dalton Mimms.
 
Tenth Inning: Brady Houston was called on in relief following Dalton Mimms hitting Jake Rainess and walking Quinn McDaniel (fourth of the day). Mimms lasted 1 inning, allowing 2 earned runs on 1 hit, 1 walk and 1 hit batter.
 
Jeremiah Jenkins welcomed the new arm to game as he hit a no-doubt home run to right field, a three-run shot. Jake Rainess (HBP) and Quinn McDaniel (BB) scored on the play. The home run was Jenkins fourth of the young season.
 
Maine came away with a win on the weekend as they took the series finale, 10-7 in 10 innings.
 
Gianni Gambardella (2-1) picked up the win in relief as he threw 3 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2.
 
Dalton Mimms (0-1) took the loss in relief.
 
Maine (3-6) will next be in action on Friday, March 10 as they travel to Maryland for a weekend series.
