11-Run Seventh Inning Propels Baseball to Series Win at SJU on Sunday, 15-13

Box Score Merion Station, PA. – The University of Maine baseball team used an 11-run seventh inning to come away with the series win at SJU, 15-13 on Sunday afternoon.
 
First Inning: SJU struck first in the bottom of the frame on an RBI groundout.
 
Third Inning: Myles Sargent tied the contest up at 1-1 as he hit a solo home run to right center, his third home run of the season.
 
Dylan McNary followed up just two batters later with a home run of his own, a two-run shot to left field. His fourth home run of the season scored Ryan Turenne (1B) on the play.
 
Nate Thomas tied the game back up at 3-3 as he singled home a pair.
 
Fourth Inning: The Black Bears jumped back in front off the bat of Ryan Turenne as he singled home Jake Marquez (1B) on a ball to center field.
 
Sixth Inning: Peter Gallo began the frame on the mound for SJU. Domenic Picone lasted 5 full innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk, 2 hit batters and striking out 5.
 
Seventh Inning: Jake Rainess got the seventh inning going for the Black Bears as he hit a solo home run to right field. The home run was his seventh of the season.
 
Colin Plante kept the scoring going in the seventh as he drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Quinn McDaniel (BB).
 
Jeremiah Jenkins (1B) scored on a passed ball in the inning.
 
Myles Sargent made it a 5-run inning as he doubled home Connor Goodman (1B) and a throwing error allowed Colin Plante (BB) to score on the play.
 
Patrick Shearer was called on to try and get out of the seventh inning. Gallo allowed 7 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts across 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
 
Dylan McNary welcomed the new arm to the game as he doubled down the left field line, scoring Myles Sargent (2B) on the play.
 
Jake Rainess knocked in another run for Maine with a single to left center, scoring Ryan Turenne (BB).
 
Mike Falco was called on in relief, the third pitcher of the inning for SJU, as Shearer failed to record an out. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits to both the batters he faced without recording an out.
 
Jeremiah Jenkins singled to left field to bring home Dylan McNary (2B).
 
Connor Goodman singled to right field, scoring Jake Rainess (1B).
 
Jake Marquez capped off the 11-run inning for the Black Bears as he singled home a pair of runs in Jeremiah Jenkins (1B) and Connor Goodman (1B).
 
The Black Bears scored 11 runs in the seventh inning, three shy of the program record for most runs in a single inning (14-1965).
 
Colton Carson began the seventh inning on the mound for the Black Bears, spelling the end of the day for Noah Lewis. Lewis made it back-to-back quality starts as he went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk and striking out 6.
 
SJU scored five runs off of Carson in the seventh inning on an infield single, throwing error, groundout, an RBI single by Justin Igoe and a two-run triple by Ryan Picollo.
 
Blaine Cockburn was called on to get out of the seventh inning as Colton Carson failed to record three outs. Carson allowed 6 runs on 6 hits and 1 strikeout in 2/3 of an inning of work.
 
Luke Zimmerman doubled to left field making it a six-run frame for SJU.
 
The score was 15-9 after seven innings following an 11-6 seventh inning in favor of the Black Bears.
 
Eighth Inning: Alec Rodriguez was called on to begin the eighth inning for SJU. Mike Falco allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 1 strikeout in his 2/3 of an inning of work.
 
Geoff Mosseau began the eighth inning on the mound for the Black Bears. Cockburn wrapped up the seventh inning, allowing no runs on 1 hit in 1/3 of an inning of work.
 
The Black Bears called on Justin Baeyens to get them out of the jam in the eighth inning as Mosseau failed to record any outs after allowing 3 runs on 1 hit and 2 walks in the frame.
 
Justin Igoe made it a 15-13 game as he hit a grand slam in the eighth inning.
 
Ninth Inning: Cole Stetzar began the ninth inning on the mound for SJU. Alex Rodriguez pitched a scoreless eighth inning for his squad, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 1 batter.
 
Maine came away with the victory, 15-13.
 
Noah Lewis (2-1) picked up the win for the Black Bears.
 
Domenic Picone (1-3) took the loss for SJU.
 
Justin Baeyens closed out the game for the Black Bears as he pitched the final 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, no walks and striking out 4.
 
Maine (9-11, 3-0 AE) returns to Orono for their home opener on Friday, Mar. 31 as they kick off a weekend series against UMass Lowell. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 P.M.
