Box Score College Park, MD – The University of Maine baseball team came up short in the second game of the weekend at Maryland on Saturday afternoon, 5-4.

First Inning: Nick Lorusso got Maryland going with a two-run home run in the bottom of the opening frame. Kevin Keister added a third run on an infield single.

Second Inning:
Myles Sargent kept us his hot-hitting streak as he hit a two-run home run to left center in the second inning, scoring
Jeff Mejia (1B) on the play. For Sargent, the home run was his first of the season.

Dylan McNary tied the contest up at 3-3 as he hit a run scoring double to left center, scoring
Dean O'Neill (2B-first collegiate hit) on the play.

Fourth Inning: Luke Shliger hit an RBI single to left field to retake the lead at 4-3.

Sixth Inning:
Dean O'Neill brought home his first collegiate RBI in his first collegiate game in the sixth inning as he drove in
Myles Sargent (2B) on the play and chased Nick Dean from the contest.

Dean finished throwing 5 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 11 hits, 1 walk and striking out 4. Kenny Lippman was called on in relief.

Seventh Inning: Tommy Kane came on in relief to begin the seventh inning as Lippman threw a perfect sixth inning for Maryland, allowing no runs on no hits.

Caleb Leys came on in relief of
Gianni Gambardella to begin the seventh inning. In his first collegiate start of the season, Gambardella kept one of the toughest offensive programs in the NCAA in check, allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits, no walks and striking out 2.

Eighth Inning: Nigel Belgrave was called on in a bases loaded, two out situation in the top of the eighth frame for Maryland as Tommy Kane lasted 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on 1 hit, no walks, 1 hit batter and striking out 3. Belgrave pitched his team out of the bases loaded jam.

Ryan Scott to begin the eighth inning as
Caleb Leys allowed no runs on no hits, 1 walk and a double play turned in his 1 inning of relief.

Ian Petrutz hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth frame to grab the lead for his squad at 5-4.

Justin Baeyens was called on the wrap up the eighth inning as Scott allowed 1 run on 2 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout over just 2/3 of the eighth inning.

Maryland came away with the victory, 5-4.

Nigel Belgrave (1-0) picked up the win as he went 1 and 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing no runs on 1 hit, 2 walks and striking out 4.
