Box Score Cary, NC – The University of Maine baseball team rallies from down four runs in the ninth, but loses against Monmouth on a walk-off home run, 14-15.
 
First Inning: The Black Bears got their offense going early as 
Connor Goodman hit an RBI single to left field, scoring 
Jake Rainess (1B/SB) on the play.
 
Jeff Mejia added an RBI of his own for the Black Bears on an infield single to first base, scoring 
Quinn McDaniel (BB/SB).
 
Caleb Leys turned in a great first frame for the Black Bears, setting all three batters down, two by way of the strikeout.
 
Second Inning: 
Jake Rainess doubled the Black Bear lead with one swing of the bat as he hit a two-run home run to right field, scoring 
Dylan McNary (2B) on the play.
 
Quinn McDaniel (1B) added another run in the frame for the Black Bears as he scored on a wild pitch thrown by Alex Barker.
 
Camden MacDonald made it 6-0 Black Bears in the second frame as he drew a bases loaded walk, scoring 
Connor Goodman (BB).
 
Maine chased the Monmouth starting pitcher, Alex Barker, from the inning during the second frame. Dante Ciaramella was called on in relief. Barker lasted just 1 and 2/3 innings on the mound, allowing 6 earned runs on 6 hits, 6 walks and striking out 2.
 
Third Inning: 
Quinn McDaniel added on a run for the Black Bears as he scored on a wild pitch.
 
Fifth Inning: 
Jeremiah Jenkins made it 9-0 Black Bears as he hit a hard line drive down the right field line, bringing home 
Camden MacDonald (1B) and 
Quinn McDaniel (1B) on the play.
 
Sixth Inning: Monmouth picked up their first hit of the contest in the bottom of the sixth frame along with their first run as Phil Stahl hit an RBI single.
 
Casey Caufield added another two runs in the frame for Monmouth as he tripled home a pair in the frame.
 
Ben Winstread capped off the inning for Monmouth with a two-run home run to right field, making it a 9-5 game heading into the back third of the contest.
 
Seventh Inning: The Black Bears turned the ball over to 
Colton Carson in the bottom of the frame. 
Caleb Leys day came to an end as he went 6 full frames, allowing 5 earned runs on 5 hits, 4 walks and striking out 5. All of his hits and runs were allowed in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
Will Trochiano plated a run for Monmouth on an infield single in the frame. Brady Mutz made it a 9-7 game as he hit a sac-fly to right field.
 
Colton Carson had an off day on the mound as he lasted just 1/3 of an inning, allowing 5 earned runs on 3 hits, 1 walk and no strikeouts. 
Justin Baeyens was called upon to finish the seventh frame.
 
Phil Stahl scored on a wild pitch throw by Baeyens in the frame. Ben Winstead gave Monmouth the lead as he hit a two-run double in the frame. Eric Sabato capped off the six-run frame for his squad with an RBI single.
 
Eight Inning: Stephen Aldrich started on the mound for Monmouth in the top of the frame, spelling the end of the day for Dante Ciaramella. Ciaramella went 5 and 1/3 innings in relief, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits, 2 walks and striking out 5.
 
Brady Mutz added a pair of run in the bottom of the eight to Monmouth's lead on a two-run home run.
 
Ninth Inning: 
Dylan McNary got one back for the Black Bears as he hit his first home run of the season to right field.
 
Jeremiah Jenkins added an RBI of his own in the ninth as he hit a single up the middle to drive home 
Jake Rainess (BB).
 
Connor Goodman made it a one-run contest as he hit a double down the left field line, scoring 
Quinn McDaniel (BB).
 
Myles Sargent tied the contest up in the top of the ninth inning as he hit a sac fly to deep left field, scoring 
Jeremiah Jenkins (1B).
 
The Black Bears took the lead back in the ninth as Monmouth had a fielding error, allowing 
Connor Goodman to score.
 
Jake Fraher was called on the get Monmouth out of the ninth inning jam as Stephen Aldrich went 1 and 1/3 innings of relief, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 3 hits, 2 walks and striking out 1.
 
Ryan Scott was called on in the bottom of the ninth to close the game for the Black Bears. 
Justin Baeyens went 1 and 2/3 innings in relief, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits.
 
Austin Denlinger won the game for Monmouth in the bottom of the ninth as he hit a walk-off two-run home run the center field.
 
Jake Fraher (1-0) picked up the win in relief as he allowed no runs in 2/3 innings of work.
 
Ryan Scott (0-1) took the loss as he allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
 
Maine (2-2) takes on Monmouth in the second game of the doubleheader at 5:40 P.M.
