PREVIEW: Maine to face #4 Colgate in first game of ‘Battle at the Burgh’ tournament

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team will kick off the second semester riding their five-game win streak into the 'Battle at the Burgh' this weekend. The four-team tournament is hosted by Robert Morris University at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, PA. 

The Black Bears will face #4 Colgate at 4:00 pm on Friday, Dec. 29. Maine will then take on either Robert Morris or Bemidji State on Saturday, Dec. 30, with puck drop coming at either 2:00 pm or 5:00 pm.

All four games of the 'Battle at the Burgh' will stream live on FloSports. Tickets for the tournament may be purchased online here

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Black Bears last played on Dec 9 in Portland, ME picking up a 6-3 win over Dartmouth College for their fifth straight win. After a scoreless first period, first-year forward Haley Ryan kicked off the scoring for Maine earning herself a natural hat trick in a span of less than 10 minutes in the second period. 
  • Ann-Frederique Guay, Alyssa Wruble and Mira Seregély tallied the next three goals as netminder Jorden Mattison picked up the victory between the pipes making 31 saves.
  • Prior to Dartmouth, Maine swept a nationally ranked Vermont in three consecutive games, followed by a win over Holy Cross.

SCOUTING #4 COLGATE (14-2-1)

  • Colgate has started the year strong, bouncing around as a top-5 team all year, picking up 12-of-14 wins to kick off the season, including a win over #1 Ohio State. 
  • They lead the ECAC with an 8-0 record, with their only losses coming from Ohio State and Minnesota-Duluth.
  • The last time out was on Dec 5 with a 9-0 win over Syracuse.
