Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team (9-9, 5-1 AE) travels to meet UMass Lowell (2-15, 1-6 AE) for the second time this season in Maine's first repeat contest against a conference opponent on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Tsongas Center. Maine is looking for the season sweep over the River Hawks after besting them 70-63 in overtime back on Jan. 4.

LAST TIME OUT:
Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team improved to 5-1 in America East play with a 50-46 victory at Binghamton on Saturday afternoon. Adrianna Smith led the Black Bears with her conference leading 10th double-double of the season.
Smith finished the contest with 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to go along with three assists. The scoring total stretched her double-digit scoring streak to nine straight. Caroline Bornemann added eight points and five boards while Sera Hodgson hit a pair of triples and finished with seven points. Anne Simon added four points and three rebounds before leaving with an injury early in the third quarter.
Maine won the rebounding battle for the seventh time in its last eight outings as the Black Bears snatched 46 boards to Binghamton's 39 in the contest. Maine turned in one of its best defensive efforts of the season, limiting Binghamton to the lowest point total (46) Maine has surrendered this season and 31.0 percent from the floor while forcing 16 turnovers. The Black Bears held Binghamton to single digits in the second (3) and fourth (9) quarters.
A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine, which ranks second in conference only scoring at 64.3 points per game in league play, is led by sophomore forward Adrianna Smith. Smith, a two-time America East Player of the Week honoree, leads the America East in rebounding (8.8) and ranks third in both scoring (14.8) and assists (3.8). Smith, who is averaging 23.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in league play, has 10 double-doubles on the season to lead the America East and rank 17th in the nation in the category. Smith has featured double-digit scoring in each of her last nine games, with double-doubles in six of her last seven including a career-high 15 rebounds in Maine's last outing at Binghamton. Caroline Bornemann checks in 17th in the league at 9.8 points per game and ranks seventh best at 6.1 rebounds. Anne Simon, who went down with a leg injury in Maine's last game at Binghamton and will miss an undisclosed amount of time, is adding 10.7 points. Olivia Rockwood, who will most likely slot into the starting lineup in place of Simon, is averaging 6.2 points and is shooting 31.0 percent from downtown. Maine leads the America East with 6.9 triples per game and 13.6 assists. The Black Bears have won the rebounding battle in seven of their last eight outings, going 6-2 over the stretch.
A LOOK AT UMASS LOWELL:
After starting league plat 0-6, UMass Lowell scored its first America East victory when it defeated Bryant, 76-63, on Sunday. UMass Lowell features no players averaging double-digit scoring as Ivory Finley (9.6) and Jaini Edmonds (9.4) lead the scoring efforts. Kaylen Banwareesingh paces UMass Lowell with 7.6 rebounds to go along with 8.7 points. The River Hawks rank last in America East and 333th out of 350 programs in scoring, averaging just 53.5 points per game. The River Hawks are also last in the America East in scoring defense, allowing 67.5 points per game to the opposition. UMass Lowell does excel in forcing turnovers, checking in second in the league with 16.9 takeaways.
SERIES WITH UMASS LOWELL:
Maine and UMass Lowell are meeting for the 21st time, and second this season after Maine earned a 70-63 overtime victory at home back on Jan. 4. Maine, 18-2 all-time against the River Hawks, won the first 12 games of the head-to-head series. Maine, 4-1 in its last five outings with UMass Lowell, won the most recent meeting in the series, 70-63 in overtime. In that contest, Adrianna Smith poured in 30 points while snatching 10 rebounds. Since the River Hawks joined the America East in 2013, Maine is 7-1 on the road in the all-time series. The first-ever meeting between the two teams came on Jan. 23, 2014, a 75-66 victory by the Black Bears in Lowell.
