PREVIEW: Women's Basketball begins two game road trip Saturday at Binghamton

Orono, Maine -- Maine continues league play when it travels for its 45th all-time meeting with Binghamton as the two square off on Saturday at 2 p.m. Maine has won each of the last five meetings between the two teams and enters play 15-11 all-time on the road against the Bearcats. Maine has not lost back-to-back games against conference opponents since Jan. 15-18, 2020; a streak spanning 55 games.

LAST TIME OUT:

Orono, Maine -- A strong second half, one that saw Vermont outscore Maine 18-8 in the fourth quarter, helped lead the Catamounts to a 61-52 victory over Maine on Wednesday evening. The loss snapped Maine's four game conference win streak and also ended Maine's 10 game win streak against Vermont.

Anne Simon led Maine with 17 points on 8-of-17 shooting to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Adrianna Smith finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, stretching her double-digit scoring streak to eight-straight. Jaycie Christopher rounded out Maine's double-figure scorers with 11 points off the bench.

Maine, which led by as many as eight, finished the evening 23-of-56 from the floor (41.1), including a 4-of-19 mark from three point range. The contest featured eight lead changes and three ties.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:

Maine is led by Adrianna Smith who leads the America East with nine double-doubles, 20th best in the nation. Smith, who has tallied double-doubles in four of her last five outings, has posted double-digit scoring in each of her last eight games. Smith, who is cashing in at a league leading 52.0 percent from the floor, leads the America East in rebounding (8.4) while ranking third in both points (14.6) and assists (3.9) per game. The sophomore forward is averaging 24.2 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in league play. Caroline Bornemann is adding 9.9 points, 17th best in the league, while checking in seventh among league leaders in rebounding (6.2). Anne Simon, who has registered double-figures in each of her last two outings, is adding 11.4 points with 3.8 rebounds. Simon ranks 12th on Maine's all-time scoring list with 1,269 points, just 26 points out of 11th. The Black Bears take more triples (20.9 per game) than any other team in the America East. Maine ranks fourth in the league in scoring (59.5) overall, but tops in the league-only games at 67.2 points per game with a league-best 15.6 assists per game and best field goal mark of 47.5 against league opponents.

A LOOK AT BINGHAMTON:

The Bearcats began the season 7-0 at home before dropping each of its last two home contests, including a most recent 64-60 loss to preseason favorite and defending champion, UAlbany. Denai Bowman and Ella Wanzer each lead the scoring attack for Binghamton, both checking in at 11.9 points per game. Wanzer is a threat from downtown, ranking first in the league with 2.7 makes from beyond the arc per game and a second-ranked 42.3 percent clip from three-point range. Clare Traeger is adding 8.4 points and checks in second among league leaders at 8.3 rebounds per game. Binghamton ranks third in the league in scoring (61.2) and third in scoring defense (60.3). The Bearcats, second in the league in rebounding (37.7), feature a league-best 18.2 turnovers forced per game.

SERIES WITH BINGHAMTON:

Maine and Binghamton will meet for the 45th time with the Black Bears holding a 29-15 advantage. Maine, which has won 18 of the last 21 meetings, will be looking for its sixth-straight win over Binghamton after sweeping the Bearcats a year ago in a two-game set on the road. Anne Simon enters the series averaging 18.8 points per game and 5.7 rebounds in six career games with the Bearcats. Simon has posted double-digit scoring efforts in each of her six meetings with Binghamton. Maine and Binghamton first met in 2001, a 63-62 overtime victory by the Black Bears. Maine is 15-11 on the road in the series.
