- Maine is set to host Colgate in the 2022 home opener for the Black Bears and the fifth career meeting between the two programs. Maine has won four of its last five home openers.
- Maine enters action 2-2 all-time against Colgate after winning the previous two meetings. The Black Bears defeated Colgate, 35-21, in the latest meeting in 2019 at Colgate and also defeated the Raiders in a 2001 meeting, 34-10. The 2001 meeting was the only previous time the two programs have met at Alfond Stadium. Colgate took the first two meetings in the series, winning in the first game played before the two schools in 1916 and again scoring a victory in a 1999 meeting. Maine is 16-19-1 all-time against Patriot League teams.
- The Raiders began their season with a 41-10 loss at Stanford. Colgate's lone touchdown in the loss came on a fumble recovery in the end zone by Asauni Allen. Colgate returns seven offensive starters and five on the defensive side from a 2021 team which went 5-6 overall but 5-1 in the Patriot League. Sophomore quarterback Michael Brescia, the 2021 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, returns after rushing for 568 yards and nine touchdowns a year ago and going 50-of-88 for 614 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
- The Black Bears opened their season with a 41-0 road loss at FBS opponent New Mexico. In the loss, Maine snagged a pair of interceptions and have now recorded seven interceptions in their last four games dating back to last season, and six in their last two. Kahzir 'Buggs' Brown has three interceptions in his last two games after notching one at New Mexico and two in the season finale at New Hampshire a year ago.
- First-year head coach Jordan Stevens (Maine '10) takes the field at his alma mater in his first home game at the helm of the Black Bears. Maine returns 14 starters (8 Off./7 Def.) including quarterback Joe Fagnano, leading rusher Freddie Brock (720 yd/7 TDs), All-CAA tight end Shawn Bowman, and All-CAA center Michael Gerace. Maine also welcomes back four of its top six tacklers from a year ago including leading returner Adrian Otero (63 tkls). Fagnano enters the game ranked 11th on Maine's all-time passing yards list (3,520) and has been extremely efficient with just seven interceptions in 435 career attempts.

A Maine Win Would...
...Be Maine's third win over Colgate (2-2).
...Be Maine's third consecutive win over Colgate.
...Be Maine's 17th win over the Patriot League (16-19-1).
...Be Maine's fourth home opening win in the last five years.
...Be Coach Stevens' first head coaching victory.
...Be Maine's sixth-straight non-conference FCS home win.
