STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the Stony Brook University Seawvoles, 5-0, in game number one, while winning game number two, 8-7, on Saturday afternoon at Sortino Field.

Stony Brook took the lead in the fourth inning with a three-run home run. The first runs of the afternoon gave the Seawolves a 3-0 lead after four innings on Long Island.

The home squad launched another home run in the fifth. They were the final runs of the game as Maine fell 5-0.

Notes:
- Emily Reid (1-6) and Gabbie Siciliano both appeared in game number one. Reid allowed three runs to Siciliano's two. They combined to strike out three.

Gabby Papushka and
Jasmine Gray each recorded sacrifices in the top of the third inning. Papushka laid down a sac bunt before Gray lifted a sacrifice fly. Maine pushed across two runs in their half of the third. The Seawolves got one back in the bottom of the third inning. After three complete, Maine led 2-1.

Papushka recorded her second RBI of the day with an infield single before
Izzy Nieblas drew a bases loaded walk.
Katie Jo Moery drove in two more with a bases loaded RBI single. After the top of the fifth inning, the Black Bears held a 6-1 lead.

Stony Brook, once again, cut into the Maine lead. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Seawolves launched a three-run home run. 6-4 was the Black Bears' lead after 30 total outs.

In the top half of the sixth inning, Papushka recorded another sacrifice. This time the sacrifice was of the fly variety.
Brianna Neely scored on the three-hole hitter's job well done. Before the six inning was over, Stony Brook tied the game with a three-run home run.

The game would go to extras before a winning run was scored.
Keely Clark, pinch hitting, launched a solo shot in the top of the eighth. It was the final run of the high scoring affair as Maine won its first conference game of the season, 8-7.

Notes:
- Emily Reid (2-6), Alexandra Gruitch, and Caitlin Fallon were all called upon in the game two victory. They allowed seven earned and struck out five as a unit.
- Gabby Papushka drove in three runs at the dish, while Keely Clark hit the game winning home run in the eighth inning.
