ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the University at Albany Great Danes, 5-0, in game number one of the weekend, while also dropping game number two, 8-5, on Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Sortino Field.
Game 1 - Maine: 1 Albany: 5
After
Kya Enos walked and stole second,
Gabby Papushka ripped a single to right field that allowed the senior to score from second. Albany answered immediately in the bottom of the first inning. After the first inning, the game was tied 1-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Albany scored three runs.
Caitlyn Fallon was called upon to limit the damage in the frame. After four complete, Maine trailed 4-1.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Great Danes added one more. It was the final run of the game as Maine fell in the opener, 5-1.

Game 2 - Maine: 5 Albany: 8
After a runner reached on a bunt, the Great Danes manufactured the first run of the game. After one complete inning, Maine was down 1-0. At the end of two, the deficit was two runs, 2-0.

In the top of the third inning, Maine took a one run lead. With
Katie Jo Moery and
Keely Clark on base,
Gabby Papushka launched a three-run home run. Albany pushed across one run in their half of the third. After three innings in game number two, the score was tied 3-3.

The Black Bears took a two run lead in the top of the fifth inning after
Kelby Drews executed a perfect sacrifice bunt, which was followed by a
Jasmine Gray double. After the fifth inning, Maine led 5-3.

Albany scored five in the bottom of the sixth inning with a bases loaded walk and a grand slam. They were the final runs of the game as the Black Bears fell, 8-5.
