Box Score ARLINGTON, VA – The University of Maine baseball team fell in the third game against George Washington, 12-4 on Sunday afternoon.

First Inning: Tim Nicholson wasted no time getting George Washington on the board early as he hit a double down the left field line. Following a wild pitch by Black Bear pitcher,
Andrew Shaw, Maine catcher,
Colby Emmertz, made a poor throw to the third baseman and the ball found its way into the outfield, bringing himself home on the error. Joe Binacone would keep the bats going with an RBI double down the left field line, driving in Steve Ditomaso.

Andrew Shaw, the Maine starter, would be pulled without getting a single out in his first start since the 2020 season, after a throwing error that resulted in two more runners scoring for George Washington.

A sac-fly by Anthony Frechette gave George Washington another early run.

Leif Bigelow for the Black Bears resulted in another run scoring, but a strikeout and a ground ball to third would get Maine out of the inning, trailing 6-0 after one.

Second Inning: Derek Ripp kept the bats going in the second inning for George Washington as he hit a stand-up double to left center, driving in Steve Ditomaso. Cade Fergus would follow up with a 2-run home run to push the lead to 9-0.

Colby Emmertz cashed in on a bases loaded opportunity for the Black Bears as he hits an RBI single to left field, driving in
Quinn McDaniel, getting the Black Bears on the board.

Sixth Inning: Eddie Micheletti performed a great hit and run as he hit a double into left center with Cade Fergus in motion, which allowed for Fergus to come all the way around from first to score for George Washington. Anthony Frechette would follow up with an RBI double of his own, driving in Micheletti. Ty Acker would make it three-straight doubles for his squad, as his drove in Frechette.

Quinn McDaniel keeps up his strong weekend as he blasted a double into deep left center field, driving in a pair of runs,
Myles Sargent and
Jeff Mejia, as McDaniel bats in his 4
th and 5
th runs of the weekend.

Jake Rainess drives in the lone run of the inning for the Black Bears as he hits a towering shot to left field for a solo home run.

George Washington would come away with the win Sunday and win the weekend series, 2-1, with a final score of 12-4 in the series finale.
